Enjoyed representing PlayOn Sports at Wingate University yesterday! I joined the career panel, shared my journey from AD to PlayOn, and connected with students exploring sports and business careers.
Thanks to my former colleague, Dr. Mary Jordan, for the invitation!
Saturday is National Make a Difference Day!
High school athletics can make an impact beyond sports. Organize a team service project, partner with a nonprofit or help a family in need.
It doesn't have to be big to make a difference.
How do your teams give back?
Playoff season is here! For ADs, that means more than another game. Ticketing, staffing, officials, streaming, security and parking all matter.
One lesson I learned as an AD: Never assume everyone knows the plan. A little extra communication makes game day easier for everyone!
This week, I had the opportunity to visit Campbell High School in Cobb County, Georgia for their district AD meeting to discuss PlayOn product updates and best practices.
Thanks to district AD Don Baker for the invite!
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
An idea for ADs: Host a student-designed Pink Out T-shirt contest. Sell the winning design and donate proceeds to a breast cancer org.
We did this for years at Weddington, raising thousands while bringing our community together!
Nick Paquette and I started together, him as an AP and me as an AD. Years later, he’s leading Pender High. I stopped by and found him on a golf cart picking up trash in the parking lot. That tells you all you need to know about Paquette. Proud of you!
Great day at the CIF Southern Section AD Summit in Riverside earlier this week! Shared ways to involve students in athletics and take work off ADs' plates. Great turnout and conversations!
Thanks to CIF-SS for the invitation and continued partnership with PlayOn Sports!
A big thank you to York Comprehensive and Parkwood for having me out this week!
Always enjoy getting back on campus, spending time with AD's and talking about ways to improve the game-day experience, increase fan engagement and make life a little easier for athletic departments.
It’s NFHS Fall Officials Appreciation Week!
As an AD, one thing you can control is how they are treated when they come to your campus.
We need good officials. Make your school a place they want to come back to.
And this week, take a minute to simply say thank you.
Today is National Coaches Day!
High school athletics doesn't happen without coaches willing to invest in kids.
Take a minute today to thank a coach who makes a difference in your program.
A GoFan sellout! Weddington sold a school-record 3,498 tickets, topping 3,154! Watched from home on the NFHS Network to check the updated scorebug and pilot sound system integration. Still a work in progress!
Proud to support Warrior Nation through PlayOn!
Today is National Custodian Day! Athletics doesn’t happen without them. Unlocking buildings, cleaning up, fixing problems and staying late. Know them. Include them. Thank them. Make them family.
Shoutout to Naomi at WHS. 20+ years keeping that building in tip-top shape!
October is National Principals Month! One thing I learned as an AD: your principal should never be surprised by athletics. Keep them informed about the good, bad and everything in between. A supportive principal is one of an AD’s best resources. Build that relationship!
A special thank you to Commissioner Que Tucker as she retires after 3+ decades with the NCHSAA. As a young AD, I appreciated her guidance and support. Years later, I’ve been fortunate to work with her through PlayOn’s NCHSAA partnership. Enjoy retirement, Que. You earned it!
Wrapping up my fifth NCHSAA Regional Meeting in two weeks at ECU.
Pretty cool seeing Weddington grad Everett Scott getting ready for practice. Class of 2024 and now kicking for the Pirates. Great catching up!
Next stop: CIF Southern Section in California.
October is almost here! That means fall postseason, Senior nights, winter prep, compliance and deadlines.I put together an October AD Checklist to keep the important stuff in one place. Save it. Share it. Add what your program needs. Hopefully it prevents a last-minute scramble!
This week I had the opportunity to travelwestern NC for the NCHSAA Regional Meetings in Asheville, Wilkesboro and Greensboro. The NCHSAA has been a great partner of PlayOn for many years, and it was great to spend the week alongside their team and the AD's they serve.
Great Facebook post from Parenting Teens and Tweens about working a high school football concession stand. Anyone who has worked concessions will relate. It’s revenue, but it’s also volunteers, students, parents and community. A lot of Friday night happens behind the counter too.
3 months after graduating and we already have a Class of '26 Athletic Management reunion! 4 students who worked behind the scenes for our program, now back as alumni. 3 are now college athletes. Build something they want to come back to. Your students today support tomorrow!
