"one option being to consider the development of above ground swimming pools" ⬅️ sounds a lot like a paddling pool 🤔

A lot of people who’ve worked at Edge Hill University will have a Doc John story. Even if it’s just a “he remembered my name!” Which is a feat in itself when you consider the thousands of staff who’ve worked there over the years. The little and big things matter.
After 30 transformative years, our Vice-Chancellor Dr. John Cater will retire in January 2025. Under his leadership, Edge Hill has soared in national rankings, and transformed into a model of modern education. His remarkable legacy... a thread 🧵.

It's no longer the slightly sleepy teacher training college on the outskirts of a market town that no one's heard of - it's now a vibrant, diverse and modern university on the outskirts of a market town best known as the home of Edge Hill (and gingerbread)!

Their thread highlights some of his achievements but for me his legacy is in giving the Edge Hill community a clear sense of purpose which I hope will continue for years to come.

It's hard to understate the impact Doc John has had on the development, growth and success of Edge Hill for many years.

The full interview is well worth a listen. It's quite reassuring that this is the standard of thinking going into government.
Watch this it’s fascinating - I asked James Timpson what he’d do about prisons and sentencing if he was in charge. He believes only a third of prisoners in jail should definitely be there. He’s now in charge of prisons (but not sentencing).

#OnThisDay 1963: In Shipston-on-Stour, England’s smallest gasworks produces gas for 150 locals. It's literally a one man operation – the same man lays mains, stokes the furnace and carries out inspections. Before nationalisation, he was also the owner.

You just *know* there's going to be a spreadsheet involved here somewhere. @standupmaths
£370m school funding gaffe: So I understand the mistake was down to pupil numbers for a council that recently split into two not being counted properly. Just the pupil numbers for the original council, and not the new one as well, were factored into funding calculations
