An old sketch from years ago, just for fun: how I thought a beholder could look, with all ten eye rays. I always found this particular monster to be facinating and fun. Which eye ray would you least want to be hit by? #Beholder #DnD #FantasyArt #MonsterArt #TTRPG
I’ve worked as a storyboard artist in the ad industry for years. All day I draw scenes like this one: people talking, reacting, selling something.
This time I “used my powers for good” and storyboarded one just for me!
As a kid I drew because I wanted to be in the adventure. I’m still that kid, just older.
So here I am, watching Lord of the Rings with Professor Tolkien. A pint each, the Argonath on the screen, and him telling me what he really thought of the film.
Imagination isn’t something you outgrow. Don’t be afraid to play, to put yourself in the story and to draw what you love. Keep having fun with your art.
Have you ever imagined watching the Lord of the Rings movies with their author?
What would you ask him?

I'm now drawing these for other people too. One cinematic frame with you in the scene, B&W or color, digital or a hand-drawn original. Details: mikeperryart.com/commissions
DL5 Dragons of Mystery was one of the first modules I ever bought, along with DL4 and DL6. It's well loved. Around grade 7 I loved Larry Elmore's artwork so much that I colored it in with Laurentian markers to make it even better. At the back I also filled out the TSR questionnaire. I checked "Yes, I am a Dragonlance game DM," and when asked why I wasn't in a campaign I wrote "Because everybody wants me as the Dungeon Master." Swipe to see what 12-year-old me thought. What was your first module?
Old-school Dragonlance art. Music to my ears. I grew up colouring DL5 with markers, and I’ve spent the last couple of years redesigning the cast in that classic style. Here’s my Verminaard.
Beach Zombie, rough sketch to final color (2012). A friend working in a morgue showed it to a senior pathologist, who said the bite, veining, bruising and crushed shoulder were accurate. Which stage do you like best?
First skate of the season with the Sr. Men’s shinny crew. Totally bagged, and the best I’ve felt all week.
I spend most of my days at the drawing table, and it’s easy to let work eat everything. Activities like this wear me out physically but recharge the batteries in a way nothing else does.
So this is your reminder: get out with the boys, play something, live a little. All work and no play is a bad deal.
What’s the thing that recharges you?

First playtest of a side scrolling brawler I've been vibe coding, built on my Dragons of Ice project. That's my Raggart design taking on a Thanoi chieftain. The walrus-men sprites are rough and I know it. The game loop works though, and that's the win today.

Should I keep going on this, or stick with the paintings?
I illustrated this In Space panorama for Kelowna Comic Con in 2017, and nearly the whole main cast signed the original. The prints are now a set of six 11 x 17s that join into one 66 x 17 in MEGA PRINT. Which Ranger would you hang first?
Set of six unsigned prints, shipping included in Canada and the US: etsy.com/ca/listing/45891697…
