Around half of Seattle businesses report that are considering moving or shrinking, blaming a business environment that they say is getting worse and don’t believe it looks like it will get better, according to a survey from the Downtown Seattle Association and Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. kiro7.com/news/local/survey-…

with lots of tech layoffs happening, its a good reminder: $250,000 a year jobs are actually really fucking rare. if you have one, you are in the top 1% of earners IN THE ENTIRE WORLD hold on tight

prediction: the hottest people on the planet will be moving to SF. if you are great looking and want to marry someone worth over $100 million, SF is the place. there are LOTS of people worth over $100M and very few super hot ones. ratio of wealthy to hot is out of wack in SF

This is a bizarre and relatively arrogant take. There is value in running in different types of circles. I abandoned nearly everything I knew and moved across the continent for my career, but my highschool friends still represent a lot of perspectives I don't have because of the tech bubble I'm in. I wouldn't classify them as ambitious necessarily, but they are well-read and try their best to keep up with what is going on. I have childhood friends scattered across the globe. Some are highly successful, but in Europe or Asia. Some have become stay-at-homes moms. This is not uncommon, and what you're identifying is probably a false flag for the most part.

Firmly firmly firmly disagree with this take. If you actually ripped in high school (ie crushed it in a sport or did something else at a very high level) you made life long friends in the trenches. My swimming and rowing friends almost all went on to Ivy League colleges and are killing it in life today.
painfully accurate from what I’ve observed, if you’re still friends with your high school friends, you either: 1) didn’t grow yourself / moved back home and not to a city / kind of peaked or 2) you went to an amazing high school and still friends with them because you’re all ambitious together no middle ground from what I’ve seen

I hate to rat my own people, but Asians spend so much time chasing $$ and education, that they only get to flex the dumb takes they didn't get to make in high school/college, right about now

or, and hear me out: you can be plenty ambitious, move from your hometown, but still cherish and value those who helped shape you into who you are today and do your best to keep in touch (and see them when you're back). skill issue if you can't manage both.

It is just near impossible to get ahead in America in 2026 by being smart and working hard. Much better to be born even moderately rich. The value of labor has never been lower and it's getting worse fast.

HILARIOUS: Justine Bateman BLASTS filmmakers for making AWFUL films because they’re catering to the WOKE MOB, dropping an amazing example: “Film festivals have done this too, where they'll take a film that is where the filmmaker is a one-legged albino from Alaska with two g*y mommies, and that checks those boxes, but the film's not very good.”
