This evening, Vicar Street was a ship on stormy waters that John Darnielle was steering, shruggingly accepting that he didn’t really know what he was doing but we’ll go out singing regardless. Great band. Inspiring band.
Lovely book: charts the unexpected friendship triangle between a neurodivergent kid in a posh school and two teachers, each with fractured pasts. The inner world of the boy in particular is charming, and the currach they build feels like a lifeboat to navigate life's calamities.
A guy gave me a lift to Dublin once. His car was immaculate. I checked his tape collection and it was all “Best of the Beatles“, “Best of Crowded House“, “Best of Fleetwood Mac“ and so on. I think about that guy more often now than I think of most people I’ve known in my life.
Sycamore Helicopters is two years old today. This album was a joy to write and record with the guys, as well as Les Keye at @Arad_Studio . Fun times.
It’s a shame that people are trying to weaponise music taste to make a point. These people might look goofy but they seem fun and it’s a lot better than Suno-generated versions of shit country music, which is all the political right would be able to produce in response.
Fab couple of days with the @IrishWritersCtr gang and the other writers as part of the International Debut Novel Competition winners’ pitching day.
16 years ago Lie Ins played the first Popical Island all-dayer. And we shall return this year! (As a three-piece now.)

I, Kevin Rowland (the son of Irish immigrants) and the main songwriter of ‘Come On Eileen,’ am disgusted to learn that Nigel Farage has used our song to make his entrance for his party conference. Myself, and all of Dexys are passionately against Farage’s politics.
@ByDonkeys .
It was great talking to Paul and Niall on Claremorris Community Radio about the Setlists and the International Debut Novel Competition. mixcloud.com/ccrnews/mike-st…
Posting this for no other reason than that it popped up on my socials and it's an astonishing performance by everyone involved. youtube.com/watch?v=6qia...
Really excited to be one of the 12 winners of this, check it out at irishwriterscentre.ie/turnin… @IrishWritersCtr
For the first time in 75 years, the Sam Mcguire Cup comes home to Mayo, Ireland.
I said it three years ago when I was in Ballina: Mayo for Sam!
And I meant it.
I said it because I know what it means not just the county of Mayo but to my own family’s story.
Today, the dream becomes reality.
Congratulations to my friends in Mayo. You earned this victory. Enjoy every minute. Sam is coming home ☘️
