One year ago today—October 23, 2025—I ended up in the hospital after having an “episode” during my shift at the haunted house, and far be it from me to deny all of you all an amusing—and introspective—story…

Keep up with you can: I used to date the girl in the Haunted Mansion costume and she used to work with the other two at a salon back in the early ‘00s. When everything went down in ‘23, she was one of the first people to check on me and got me a job working with the other two.
“There thing as "the horror film," pure and simple. Instead, "horror" amounts to a huge cultural garbage pail into which we throw all sorts of our thoughts and emotions, everything in fact that our rational minds cannot accept.”

The rules room has been my home for the past three years, but we like to mix it up on occasion and I enjoy being versatile so last year, I got placed the foyer which is right before the rules room and a big part of the story of the house featuring impressive special effects.

Upon rewatches, the worst things on this movie are the need to over explain things that were just accepted in the original films: putting the droids brain in the Falcon and that’s why Han refers to the ship as her, that’s just car talk.

They eventually moved to the “rules room” where my twenty years of experience as a bartended came in handy, wrangling people, lining them up, and telling them to behave themselves all in monster movie makeup from a little stage…I also do magic tricks.

I never ended up in the concessions like, I wound up in the actors line and was cast as “grandpa in the attic” no doubt to being 43 However I got noticed as I colored my hair grey for the part (I was in beauty school after all) and inventively using the room for scares.

Something about hearing the Gin Blossom’s “Hey Jealousy” while wandering around a Kohls takes me right back to the ‘90s.

Most of my theater going experiences took place at Sony Crestwood, Ford City, Chicago Ridge Mall, the Chicago Ridge Commons, and Evergreen Plaza.

In September of ‘23, an old flame sends me a link to an ad for a haunted house looking for help during the spooky season. She suggested that maybe they’d need bartenders, & after all, I was Chicago’s Best Bartender according to the Chicago Reader in 2021, so I went down to apply.

One of the little things I love is talking to people—particularly those my age or older—who can remember what theater they saw movies at. It really is the little things…

Imagine sitting in a crowded theater on December 13, 1997 for SCREAM 2 and racking your brain because you’re certain you recognize “Dewey’s Theme” from somewhere but just can’t place it…

I contend that the most fun entry of the Disney STAR WARS era (and the one that has the most in common with the 1977 original tonally) is SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY (2018).
