U.S. Army Reserve officer of a 4yr-old here, with multiple military tours and 21 years of service going strong. I’d like to make a point about MSG Walz (Retired) I feel everyone is overlooking… He mobilized to Italy in support of OEF from Aug 2003- to Apr 2004. That would be when his long awaited IVF baby, Hope, was 2 and 3-yrs-old. Walz came home with over 23 years of service, and relatively soon after he dropped his well-earned retirement paperwork. He did not miss Hope’s 5th. My husband just retired from the Guard with 23 years of service—we are both at those years in our life, but also older with young children, including our own 4-year-old. We’re also in a transition of trying to make service beyond uniform our future (yeah, I’m also running for office). It’s up to all citizen-Soldiers to make the best decisions for their family. Sometimes those are decisions where public service leaves the uniform and family is a priority. We may even retire at the lesser rank (MSG versus SGM) because it’s THAT important. My two cents: unless you’ve been in this position, it’s truly not yours to judge.

So the Orioles went into Seattle, took 2 out of 3, and left with their president of business ops?

everyone wants to say its because we “tanked” but in reality alot of it is just excellent drafting. Gunnar was chosen 42nd overall. Thats nuts. Westburg was 30th overall. Coby Mayo who looks like hes gonna be insane was a 4th rounder.

Maya Angelou famously said: "When someone shows you who they are, believe them." But there's a new idea ringing in my ears about people: "When someone reveals what they think about you, believe them." And of course, act accordingly. People will accidentally reveal all the time that they: 1. Don't respect you 2. Don't believe in you 3. Don't like you And we will keep trying to earn their respect, belief and admiration. In my experience, it has never ONCE been worth that effort.

Can we...just accept that we suck at this? I want to tell you a story that has made me kinda hopeless about Twitter's ability to affect positive things happening, and it starts with this tweet from Hillary Clinton. teapawt.net/HillaryClinton/status/…

Every once in a while, a reasonable conservative commentator will say it's crazy major news orgs have no one on staff to earnestly represent MAGA conservatism. It sounds like a reasonable critique. MAGA is ~25-40% of America! How can you cover a country without somebody to represent this cohort? But this is the problem. Yes, MSM journalists get stuff wrong all the time and let their biases pull them in bad directions. But MAGA conservatism is a movement *entirely* dedicated to faithfully defending somebody who is biologically incapable of getting through a paragraph without lying. You can't build a reasonably objective news organization like "... this is our econ team, this is our science desk, and these folks we pay to scream about how the sky is green if Trump decides for whatever reason to lie about sky color on a Tuesday."
It's "interesting" to watch the right-wing outrage sausage get made. 1. Judge: Trump can attend son's graduation if trial is on track, but no official ruling yet. 2. Trump (lying): Judge told me I'm "prohibited" from attending my son's graduation, what an outrage. 3. People desperate to feel righteous anger when they log online buy the lie, rather than spend 7 seconds Googling the underlying news.

You're being childish and assholic. I'm 63 and have never voted in a general election for anything less than harm reduction and imperfect men who better approximate more of my ideals. That's all you get. Now do your job as a citizen or life for many others will not get worse.

Trump is a loser. Always has been. Always will be.
The truth about the state of the 2024 election: • Trump spent $50M of campaign donations on legal fees in 2023 • His campaign is now spending more money than it's raising • The RNC has $8M cash on hand. They should have gone woke. • The longer Nikki Haley stays in the race, the more money Trump and the RNC burn and the weaker Trump becomes • Trump Org could be up in smoke before the primary is over • Trump could be removed from the ballot in a number of states • Biden has over $100M in the bank, a record number going into an election year, with no competition in the primary • Biden is now beating Trump 50% - 44% in the polls as Trump is facing trial after trial and Biden's economy is booming. All we have to do is keep pushing the truth and turn out to vote.

I used a modified telescope to capture high-speed video of the eclipse at a long focal length. Seeing the lumpy mountains of the moon against a backdrop of churning plasma is incredibly surreal. (I hope you weren't sick of eclipse posts 😜)

If you don't live in Israel or consume Israeli media, you don't know who Yair Golan is. He is a 61-year-old retired Major General in the Israel army and a former parliament MP. Spend a minute to read this story. Yesterday, when IDF and the police were in complete chaos, Golan put on his old uniform, took his weapon, and drove into the war zone multiple times to rescue civilians under fire. He rescued two young adults hiding under a bush after 260 of their friends were murdered at an outdoor party. He answered a call from a journalist that his son was hiding under fire and simply said, "Give me his location, and I will bring him back home." An hour later, the son called his father from Golan's car. Golan collected a small crew and went in and out of the war zone, rescuing dozens of people while exchanging fire with Hamas terrorists. He is 61, he could have stayed home, but he chose to risk his life for people he does not know. Golan is one of the strongest voices from the Israeli left and was constantly attacked by the right wing in Israel. But when the time came, he was first fighting the barbaric attack. The same brain wiring that supports peace, is often the same wiring that drives people to do the right thing. A true hero.
