Vehicle theft has a significant impact on residents, families and businesses, and tackling this issue requires a coordinated effort across our region. The $300,000 grant through the Government of Ontario’s Preventing Auto Thefts Grant Program is a welcome investment that will support Halton Regional Police in strengthening enforcement efforts, targeting organized criminal networks and preventing vehicle theft.
Thank you to the Province of Ontario for recognizing the importance of this work and providing funding to support our police service. We are fortunate to have dedicated officers working every day to keep our communities safe, and I want to recognize Halton Regional Police and its partners for their continued efforts to protect residents and make Burlington and communities across Halton safer.
I look forward to working with Mayor-Elect Knoll and the Honourable MPP Hamid on this together, along with MPP Pierre, MPP Triantafilopoulos, MPP Crawford, and MPP Racinsky, along with our provincial partners.

@fordnation @MariannMeedWard Mr. Ford, how do you justify overriding Burlington’s elected council? What is the point of local democracy if the Province can overrule the people we elect to represent us? I live in Burlington, but not Millcroft.
The province has overridden Burlington council and the Millcroft community, approving a Minister's Zoning Order for about 138 new homes on the Millcroft Greens golf course.
Council unanimously refused this proposal. Decisions like this should be made here, by the people who live here. My full statement is in the slides.
To Millcroft residents: I stand with you.

Marianne Meed Ward looks ahead to her third term as Burlington mayor.
The win came despite a provincial MZO (Minister’s Zoning Order) decision — released just days before the vote — that she says left residents “devastated.”

Asked whether she did something to tick off the province, @MariannMeedWard laughed.
“I consider the province a great partner & want to have a good relationship,” noting she’ll continue to criticize policy that’s not good for the community when necessary.

Mayor @MariannMeedWard called the province's timing on a Friday afternoon 2 1/2 days before the election “very curious." Although it brought "a lot of anger & devastation," to residents who Meed Ward visited the next day — it "ultimately" didn't sway results.

While municipalities across Ontario ousted mayors on Monday - Burlington brought theirs back for a 3rd term.
"That feels great," @MariannMeedWard said on Thursday.
