For Michaelmas Day, one from my recent travels. Medieval wall painting from St James, South Leigh (Oxfordshire) featuring St Michael weighing souls and the Virgin Mary dropping rosary beads onto the scales to weigh it in her (and the soul's) favour.

But what is clear is that our collective pride in three British institutions has collapsed since 2011: parliament, the monarchy, and the BBC. Debates over the quality of BBC output aside, it also reveals a deeper fragmentation.. 3/6

Joseph Jacob's illustration of Hedley Kow (a Co. Durham horse spirit with a sideline in shapechanging) catches more than almost any other the joyful abandon of the trickster spirit in British folklore and fairylore. If anyone can do better I'd love to see it! @Miller_flash

I'm very grateful to @Miller_flash for this perceptive review of 'Twilight of the Godlings' 🧚‍♀️📚
