This is an issue the Nigerian government should take seriously. No one should use religion to promote extremism, encourage hostility, or disrupt communities. Some people travel to countries such as Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Egypt, and Pakistan to study and later return to Northern Nigeria to preach divisive ideas that may cause tension and unrest. The government should monitor extremist teachings, hold anyone who incites violence accountable, and ensure that religious preaching follows the law. Religious freedom should not be used as a cover for extremism.
