NEW DATES post #Texas power crisis for our workshop with the @GriefLossATX on how #mentalhealth professionals can support clients struggling to find #meaning in #Grief & #loss during the #COVID19 #pandemic. The LEGENDARY Dr. Neimeyer from @PortlandLoss will be a guest speaker!
Thrilled to be offering a virtual #workshop for @GriefLossATX on how professionals can support clients in making meaning as they #grieve death and the #loss of their way of life during the #pandemic
We found similar results with 5.4% not engaging in any measures to slow the spread of COVID (no handwashing or social distancing), but here's the kicker, it's these folks that have the highest #COVID anxiety! So they aren't helping society OR THEMSELVES! sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
@JustinTPickett any chance you could point me to the source of this data? We're writing a follow up to our study and would love to cite additional resources that found similar rates of hand-washing etc. Thanks!
In his @huffpost article, @danieltencer suggests that Canadians "like the new normal" of working from home. Makes me think of our finding that staying home improves mental health by giving us a sense of control and predictability during #pandemic.
Excited that our collaboration is out! Looks like social distancing and staying at home empowers us by inviting us to participate in the global effort to flatten the curve.
Our study found that social isolation can actually be GOOD for your mental health! sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
The Online/Distance Ed committee @ADECnews is thrilled to have @drdavidz, psychologist & zen priest, offer a webinar on #Mindfulness as an approach for bolstering resilience despite the unpredictability & isolation of #COVID19 #SocialDistancing:

Despite the challenges and losses of #SocialDistancing & #StayHome, they appear to ease the mental health burden of #COVID by giving us a sense of control and predictability. Thrilled to see our collaboration published

Thanks @BrainBehavImm for providing a platform for our work!
Thrilled to be presenting our work on the Meaning in Loss Group, piloted by my #AcademicSoulmate, the brilliant @EdithSurrey!
Proud to see my amazing friend and colleague @MilmanJane give a webinar on the MLG: The Meaning In Loss Group: Addressing Complicated Grief on 1st May at 12pm CDT ( 6pm in the UK) together with Bob Neimeyer adec.org/iCore/Events/Event_…
I don’t think I ever truly understood the concept of “because I have to” until I had to write up my dissertation with my newborn in tow.
Replying to @JanetSKWatson
As someone who had three children before tenure, I always hated it when people would ask “how do you do it?” because the only real answers were “because I have to” and “sometimes I don’t.”
Why focus on meaning making in grief therapy? Because disrupted meaning is a path to severe grief. Grateful to @grievingandloss @CruseCare @hospicebuffalo & many others for collaborating our study! The 1st articles are here: doi.org/10.1002/jclp.22751 & doi.org/10.1080/20008198.201…
How does Dr. Neimeyer’s Meaning in Loss Group protocol facilitate meaning making among the bereft? The brilliant @EdithSurrey who piloted the group is here on a visiting scholar award to address this question. We’re working hard and eating well!
Can’t wait to be a part of this!!
Just three months until our Inaugural Summer Institute in Grief Therapy! See portlandinstitute.org for information on discounts for students.

Dr. Neimeyer answers a mother who lost an adult son and feels part of life is missing: "...It's just so tough trying to come to terms with the senselessness of it. I was his mom for over 25 years--and now I'm wondering what happens from here..." conta.cc/2F1TCTt
What are the unique considerations of supporting parents grieving the loss of adult children? Dr. Neimeyer and I explore this in our chapter "An Unexpected Loss: The Loss of an Adult Child" in the new book by @hfahospice on an #agingAmerica: hospicefoundation.org/HFA-Pr… …
