6 months of learning, changing behaviors and building very simple system
Result: my investment portfolio increased by $43k
That is mind-blowing
Now I spend roughly 20-30 mins each month with Idleness π
(Of course, this does not take into account doing investment thesis)
Late night thought 575:
I used to think investing was mostly about picking the right assets.
Turns out, understanding your own behavior and building consistency can make a much bigger difference than I expected.
There's a lot of work that happens before the actual work begins.
Preparing materials, understanding requirements, checking assumptions, coordinating people, anticipating problems...
And sometimes, when everything runs smoothly, nobody notices any of it.
One thing I enjoy about traveling is seeing how different everyday life can be somewhere else.
Not necessarily the famous landmarks or tourist attractions.
Sometimes it's just walking around a neighborhood, finding a random coffee shop, watching how people go about their day
Late night thought 574:
Sometimes the photos I end up liking the most aren't the ones I planned to take.
It's something I noticed while walking around, a random detail, an interesting light, or a moment that lasted only a few seconds.
Hot take: Having access to more information doesn't automatically make us better at making decisions.
Sometimes it just gives us more things to worry about, more opinions to compare, and more reasons to delay making a decision.
One thing I've learned so far:
Being more involved doesn't necessarily mean making better decisions.
Sometimes it's about doing the research, setting your approach, and then having the discipline to leave things alone.
Turns out, doing nothing can be surprisingly difficult. π
Late night thought 573:
The nicest thing this year so far is me managing to get some sort of work-life balance back
Still pretty tilted toward work though ππ
At least these PTO days are not wasted
I use these to learn more and do some research for planning 2027
Late night thought 572:
I know we can research and study a bunch of things nowadays, especially there's AI
But sometimes, I do like watching lectures from MIT Open CourseWare on YouTube
Those are gems π
When you still have left over vacation days and you just took off and be at home....
I guess there're more things to do anyway when I don't think about work π
Late night thought 571:
The last 6-7 months with this pet project were well spent
I watched myself approach things a bit differently too when it comes to finance
Glad that Notion is there for me to transfer my thoughts...

Well... apparently that wasn't quite the wrap π€£
I forgot 2 more parts of Idleness (which I deem most important):
Investment Policy Statement (IPS) - principles that guide my investment decisions

And... that's a wrap (for now) π
I'm sure I will continue adjust and improve this as I use this more and more
One thing for sure though...
Idleness is true to its name: not spending more time managing my investments
Lastly, I want to take my investments more seriously
Plus, want to avoid hindsight bias and make better decision regarding my investment

While caring for my financial... situation,
I also want to see what are the experiences I have for fun in a year

As if reviewing was enough...
I need something to compare or at least set a benchmark against
