Last night, Michael Stipe sang R.E.M.’s “E-Bow The Letter” and his Big Red Machine collab “No Time For Love Like Now” with the National’s Matt Berninger and Aaron and Bryce Dessner. It was part of AB100, a two-day festival celebrating the Dessners’ 50th birthday in the Basque region. Stipe hadn’t performed “E-Bow,” originally recorded with Patti Smith, in 17 years. By the same token, sometimes if someone said, 'Do you want to rekindle this thing that happened when you were 15?' you might be like, 'Oh, jeez,' you know? "It's just a tricky thing, because I love that the fans have taken over the legacy of Kyuss, and that's so rare and cool, you know? I just don't want to mess it up. I don't know. Would it be better to do that? I just don't know. I guess I'm just sort of perpetually on the fence about it. I just don't want to mess it up somehow."
