Governments, banks, and Big Tech are on a collision course. How do they control the technology their economies depend upon?
China weighs AI model restrictions, DoJ scrutinizes Nvidia, and European sovereign debt competes with AI for capital.

How will Big Tech pay for the next phase of AI?
Meta's CapEx now exceeds its operating cash flow. Tesla and SpaceX are exploring a merger. @LeveredUSTs examines the AI capital race of equity dilution, debt, and dealmaking.
The AI boom is hitting a balance-sheet wall.
@LeveredUSTs notes the unwinding leveraged carry trade in French OATs and links a big drop in long-end Treasury yields to Meta's earnings call.
.@LeveredUSTs sees Zelensky moving from "playing to win" to "playing not to lose." Potential Abu Dhabi talks may put security, sanctions, energy and Russian assets in play, with the US, Russia, and China at the negotiating table.
How much capital will the AI boom vacuum up in 2027?
@LeveredUSTs points out Meta's CapEx exceeding its operating cash flow, raising the prospect of new share issuance and a potential Tesla-SpaceX merger could open another financing route.
Could rising yields trigger a Treasury selloff?
Harley Bassman warns 30Y Treasury futures have turned negatively convex for the first time since 2007. As yields rise, duration risk could jump, prompting more bond selling. @LeveredUSTs models a $110B scenario.

Large reduction in open interest on long-end UST futures in Monday's session. Pink & Cyan bars represent long end UST futures in screenshot below.
Think of this like one cat from the litter in Bassman's "A Fat Cat in a Small Door" post getting through ... and so far all OK. This could represent the beginning of a broader liquidation ... or an orderly risk reduction that defuses/prevents one.
Alternatively, there's a competing explanation that Dallas Fed researchers presented in a research note last week that proposes structural capital flows as a root cause, where falling UST futures activity reflects a shift away from the cash-futures basis trade towards swap-spread trades.
If that alternate explanation holds true, the authors suggest we may be seeing a structural change in how & where long-duration risk is intermediated (from futures to swaps) and the developments we're seeing is not solely the beginning of a disorderly liquidation process but a bigger structural change.
Look at Monday's OI development as a test run for a packed calendar the next 5-6 weeks for the long end to navigate:
(1) 20 year auction tomorrow (10/21)
(2) elections (11/3)
(3) QRA (11/4)
(4) Dec-to-Mar ZB & WN (last week of Nov)
With the selloff in $CRWV senior unsecured debt showing the importance of long-term capital access to the firms involved in the AI buildout, I would not be surprised to see companies in this sector building their own experts on staff to ensure undisrupted access to credit markets in the coming years as availability, terms, and pricing of available credit becomes just as important of a bottleneck as your GPUs, rackspace, transformers, electricity, etc.

High-yield issuance is surging: why are borrowers rushing for worse terms?
@LeveredUSTs examines two cases: JetBlue bonds yield 23% as fuel costs and weak demand bite & CoreWeave's unsecured debt yields 13.5%, squeezing speculative AI expansion.
Fuel accounted for more than half of September's CPI increase.
Diesel and refining constraints remain central to 2026's inflation story, helping to partially explain the US' reversal on Russian oil sanctions and its new diesel import deal, as @LeveredUSTs explains.
Is negative convexity about to trigger Q4 trouble?
Energy inflation is squeezing credit across airlines and AI infrastructure. @LeveredUSTs dives into whether negative convexity in Treasury futures could add fuel to a broader bond market selloff.
