Comrade Tito, Uncle Tito, Gov8, erstwhile National Breadwinner, unpaid impresario for Lucky Star, The Duke of Magoebaskloof.   He was larger than life because he led such a big life and touched the lives of many people.   He fraternised with heads of states and government such as Presidents and Prime Ministers.   He was on first name terms with central bankers around the world.   He was respected by leading economists, titans of business, labour leaders and ordinary people in our country.   Yet despite his stature and profile, he never lost the common touch. He had a gift to connect to people. He understood them and he had a way to make people feel special and made them have a sense that they mattered. #RIPTitoMboweni

Gwede Mantashe should have said this: ‘Comrades and fellow South Africans: The people are speaking to us through a significant rejection of their primary party of liberation. We are seeing declines in our fortunes across all provinces. Before this, we lost power in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Ekurhuleni. We did nothing about this. We losing support mainly because we failed the motive forces of the liberation struggle. Black people and the black working class, in particular, remain the face of degrading levels of unemployment, poverty and inequalities. They remain the face of landlessness and propertylessness. Our corruption and sheer neglect have negatively affected them, leading to our criminal justice system, education, and healthcare being largely dysfunctional. We in the leadership have become multimillionaires, mainly through our families. Many of our supporters stayed away from these elections or expressed disgust, frustration and anger by voting for other political parties. This phenomenon started in 1999, and we have done little to address it. Our people are now resorting to backward politics. There is a rise of regionalism, tribalism, racism, xenophobia, or conservative politics that present a danger to what ANC forebears did to unite our people using the ANC as the vehicle of their unity. Today, we are more fragmented than at any time in our history. Had we prioritised principled unity of our people - had we consistently pursued the non racial and non sexist project we would have maintained the two thirds with even greater levels of participation. The national question and unity of people is being reversed. The nonracial and nonsexist project is under attack. This is how our people react to the economic squeeze brought about by our loyalty to pro-big business, pro-rich policies. The rich we serve are no where to be found today. This is a phenomenon all over the world. Progressive politics are being reversed. Tribalism, regionalism, xenophobia, racism and sexism are now taking centre stage in too many parts of our continent, Europe and America. The main reason is our people see no difference between us and the people we accuse of representing regressive politics. We are failing our people where it matters the most - their human dignity. So our people in 2024 listen, vote and even religiously follow scoundrels and scams of society. We are going back to the drawing board. We do need a genuine renewal of Chris Hani’s movement. I take full responsibility for betraying Dube, Seme, Xuma, Luthuli, Tambo and Mandela. I am resigning and calling on others implicated in corruption scandals to do the same to give the ANC a chance to renew itself. I do intend to challenge the findings of the Zondo Commission because I disagree with the conclusions, but for now, let the process of ANC cleansing itself begin with leaders who can go through the eye of the needle. Those of us who get cleared in the courts will return to help with this effort to renew the ANC. I am so sorry for putting you throgh you are going through today. I thank you’ If this ststement was to be made I would go back to the ANC I believe millions others too
