An update from the Mitcham Common Manager about the burst water main on the Common. On the positive side, the leak has refilled Bidder's Pond, as shown in the photo sent to us via our Facebook page.

'Kite Fighting' on Mitcham Common seems to have become popular. The downed kites, and lines are strewn over trees and bushes, as well as ending up on nearby houses. The lines have an abrasive coating and may harm wildlife. Here are some photos of the debris recovered.

We received a response from Merton Council to our FOI request re their Funding Agreement with the Mitcham Common Conservators. We have rejected this response and have asked for an Internal Review. whatdotheyknow.com/request/f…

The Friends have been involved with the Conservators and Merton Council on the ‘Outdoor Classroom’ project. This is a permanent orienteering course of 40 plaques laid out across Mitcham Common on all areas except for the Golf Course, Gunsite and Mill Green.

On Mon 18th May, a fly-tipping van got stuck on the bunds at the Brookmead Rd/Beddington Lane entrance to the 1-Island subsite. Police & Conservators were informed. Luckily, no damage was done to the woods, & the Warden says the fly-tip will be cleared soon. Video taken 20th May.
