This is the biggest lie you’ve been told.
You’re told the West is falling apart because of migrants and minorities.
But who closed the factories? Crashed the banks? Launched the wars?
Here’s what really happened.

I for one appreciate the Created Uprising. It demonstrates that even in a setting like Halo, relying on advanced AI would one day come back to bite humanity in the ass. We’re already speeding towards that eventuality in real life.
“The Covenant don’t take human prisoners” Yes they do, be it for sport, study, food, or to activate Forerunner tech. They’ve spared humans whenever they had something to gain from it, and in a setting where Reclaimers are rare, they’d naturally want one who’s on their side.

There is no limit to the shame that should be felt for ruining FiM and its characters like this.

No matter how you cut it, human society in Halo is dystopian. The UEG/UNSC/ONI is highly militaristic, employs mass surveillance, heavily exploits and suppresses the outer colonies, kidnapped and brainwashed children for a supersoldier program, and creates AIs from human brains.

The final shot in The Last Problem is the book that opened at the beginning of the show closing. This would be a fitting send-off if it weren't for the fact that this book was the one about Nightmare Moon that Twilight Sparkle had been reading at the time and in other episodes. It wasn't meant to be some metaphysical chronicle detailing the events of the show itself. This is a short yet pretty big continuity error that ignores consistency for the sake of emotion and symbolism, something that Season 9 in general suffers from.

Of all the aged-up designs of the Mane Six, Twilight Sparkle's is the worst. It doesn't make sense for her to grow into a palette swap of Princess Celestia (which makes her look ridiculous) since the was already a fully grown adult pony before and after becoming an alicorn, so there was no reason for her to get any larger. If all alicorns, both natural and artificial, were meant to reach this size in roughly two decades as the time skip implies, then Princesses Luna (who, based on the timeline established in Horse Play, was at least one hundred years old when she rebelled and still smaller than Celestia) and Cadance (who became an alicorn as a filly and is implied to be about a decade older than Twilight) would have already looked like that in their debut episodes.
The fact that Twilight has no visible signs of aging unlike her friends also implies that she is indeed immortal and will outlive them as many fans had feared. This contradicts a tweet by then-co-executive producer Meghan McCarthy shortly Twilight became an alicorn, confirming that this would not be the case. McCarthy would go on to become Hasbro's chief of storytelling for MLP in 2015, so she would have greenlit Twilight's growth spurt and its implications in spite of her previous statement. This is not only inconsistent, but also breaks a promise that reassured many fans for years.

We've clarified in our previous critiques and outlines that, apart from the song, Luster Dawn and the statue of the Mane Six, The Last Problem shouldn't be included in Season 9 2.0. That said, there's a lot that's wrong with this episode that bears mentioning, for it's the culmination of S9's bad writing.
First up, we have the whole jump forward in time. This is an overdone, overrated trope. No one needs to see characters they've grown attached to over years suddenly aged up, and in this case, they look ridiculous. FiM has provided an escape for many people and seeing the Mane Six having grown older defeats the purpose of that by reminding viewers of life's impermanence.

Here’s how the second half of the revised Season 9 finale ought to go:
With most of Equestria’s heroes imprisoned beneath Canterlot, Grogar leaves to go find where Twilight Sparkle is hiding with his seeing stone. This eventually allows Discord to partly redeem himself by tricking Tirek into freeing the Mane Five, Spike, the Pillars, and Starlight, allowing the former two to escape while he, Starlight and the flightless and cutie mark-less Princesses and Pillars hold off the three villains.
Twilight’s friends find that the three pony tribes have isolated themselves thanks to the Legion’s meddling and discover that the reignited distrust and hatred between them has allowed the Windigos to return, who bring the beginnings of a blizzard with them. The Mane Five and Spike eventually figure out that Twilight is hiding in the Crystal Empire just like in the original version.
There, they find Twilight trying to figure out what to do, with her board of interconnected factors now redrawn to exclude King Sombra and no longer equate Discord to Grogar. After voicing her despair that everything she has done for Equestria has been undone and she has no idea what to do, her friends convince her not to give up hope, and to save Equestria again.
Back in Canterlot, Grogar returns with knowledge of Twilight’s whereabouts, only to be angered by the fact that her friends have escaped while he was gone. While he and the others argue about where to deal with her or the Windigos first, they see the Mane Six and Spike on the field Canterlot overlooks.
As the Legion portals to their location, the heroes make a plan to steal Grogar’s bell and use it to give Discord’s magic back to him. While one half distracts the Legion, the other half tries to get the bell off Grogar’s neck, but he proves too powerful and clever. In homage to G1, Spike to grab hold of it, but is shaken off, captured, and held hostage.
Just as the Legion tries to finish the heroes off, they’re saved by the arrival and intervention of their friends from all over Equestria and beyond, with the additions of Stygian, Luster Dawn, and the Washouts. After the Legion muscles through them, they’re stopped by one of Twilight magical beams. She gives her speech about how while there will always be darkness, she and her fiends and those after them will never stop fighting for harmony.
She and her friends channel the magic of friendship and use it against the Legion and the Windigos. While the Windigos are destroyed and Tirek, Cozy Glow and Chrysalis are returned to normal, Grogar loses all his magic and his sapience, implying that his bell made him the way he was. The trio swear revenge, but after being crushed by a chaos-powered Pinkie Pie’s giant cupcake, are banished to Tartarus in a large cage together, where they proceed to fight and bicker over who is to blame for their defeat.
After rebuilding Canterlot, Harmony Day is celebrated. A statue of the Mane Six is unveiled, and Twilight gives a speech about how Equestria’s newfound harmony wouldn’t have been possible had she not moved to Ponyville, met the Mane Five and learned about the magic of friendship.
This leads to a recontextualized singing of “How the Magic of Friendship Grows,” in which the Mane Six lead a procession of their friends back to Ponyville. The montage depicting all the characters relevant to each of the Mane Six’s respective journeys is retained, albeit without the aged-up future versions of the latter. The final shot of the show depicts the Mane Six, back in Ponyville and in front of the Castle of Friendship, surrounded by their friends and families as the camera zooms out, followed by a simple fade to black.

The conflict of the Season 9 finale needs another major change, this time to its ending. Turning Chrysalis, Tirek and Cozy Glow (a child) to stone was uncharacteristically harsh on the part of the Royal Sisters (not to mention sadistic of them and the Mane Six to laugh about it) and hypocritical on the part of Discord, who suggested it despite causing this conflict in the first place and stating in his debut episode that he drew the line at petrification.
Sure, not every bad guy can be reformed (right away), but this is a show that often emphasizes redemption or at least the possibility of it. Turning them to stone takes away that possibility and may be a fate even worse than death if they're still aware. It would have been less cruel and more constructive to put them all in Tartarus together. At least that way, they could still talk to each other and maybe come to a decision to change one day.

The final battle is missing a few much-needed characters apart from Grogar. Stygian should be there, since he deserves to physically help save Equestria for once like he’s always wanted. Luster Dawn should be included too, since her character can be recycled for a new mid-season filler episode to replace The Last Problem. And if the likes of Flim and Flam can find redemption and join the fray, so too can Lightning Dust and the Washouts.

Let’s have the battle for the first half of Season 9’s new finale go like this:
Grogar sends the other three villains to attack Equestria’s defenders. While Tirek takes down the Pillars and Chrysalis substitute (not permanent) Headmare Starlight, Cozy Glow goes for the Mane Six and Royal Sisters in Canterlot. However, she doesn’t drain Celestia and Luna with the Bewitching Bell, since Grogar has that. Instead, she fights all of them until Grogar gets there and drains the Royal Sisters himself.
When Tirek and Chrysalis arrive, Grogar and the other villains begin gloating that they’ve turned ponies against each other and destroyed the harmony in Equestria that Twilight and her friends have fought so hard to protect, with some of Chrysalis’ old lines now going to Grogar. They prepare to kill Twilight, but are distracted by Rarity, which allows her and the others, including a now flightless and cutie mark-less Celestia and Luna, to hold off the combined magical beams of all four villains while Twilight is forced to flee.
What do you think? Let us know.
Season 9 is a disgrace to MLP and needs to be officially revised. The show deseves a better ending.

Another continuity error in the Season 9 finale is the fact that Princesses Celestia and Luna are somehow still able to fly despite losing their magic. As seen in the Season 4 finale, magic is a necessary factor in a pony's ability to fly, not just having a pair of wings.
This is an easy enough fix. Let's have them reanimate things so that the Royal Sisters are rendered flightless after they've had their magic stolen.

One detail that the Season 9 finale gets wrong is how supposedly no one can handle Discord's magic after absorbing it. This ignores the fact that Lord Tirek stole it in the Season 4 finale and didn't suffer any unwanted effects afterward.
Let's just do away with this little subplot for S9 2.0. Instead, Grogar can keep Discord's magic stored in his Bewitching Bell, not trusting it with anyone else, especially after Cozy Glow, Tirek and Chrysalis' failed coup against him.
What do you think? Let us know in the comments.

Here's how the Grogar plot twist can be changed:
On the day of the Harmony Day celebration, Grogar (now voiced by Corey Burton in lieu of the late Doc Harris) and the Legion of Doom get ready to attack Equestria after sowing distrust between the pony tribes. Grogar empowers Cozy Glow, Lord Tirek and Queen Chrysalis with his Bewitching Bell, but before they leave his lair, he exposes a Discord, who was invisible, and drains him of his magic.
Discord flees to Canterlot and admits to the Mane Six that he knew of Grogar's and the Legion's doings from the start, but said and did nothing on the belief that facing and defeating an alliance of the remaining villains would affirm to the Mane Six, especially to Twilight, that they were capable of maintaining the Harmony they’ve brought to Equestria. However, Grogar was aware that Discord was spying on the Legion, and feigned ignorance in order to make him lower his guard so he could remove him as a threat at the best possible time, outsmarting the master of chaos and beating him as his own game. This way, Grogar is both real and the main villain, while Discord is not totally responsible for this conflict.
What do you think of this? Let us know.

The Season 9's finale's biggest blunder, next to Twilight Sparkle taking over, is the part where "Grogar" is revealed to be Discord in disguise. This was easily the biggest letdown in the whole show. They took a long-anticipated G1 villain and hyped him up as the greatest threat faced by the Mane Six in what would surely be the ultimate showdown, only to make him a cheap, disposable plot device in favor of three other villains who were old news at this point. There's a right way and a wrong way to subvert people's expectations, and this is definitely one of the latter cases.
This plot twist also hurts what little character development and consistency Discord had. Given his great power and intellect and the lesson he learned after betraying his friends' trust in Season 4, one would think he wouldn't be so easily blindsided by the other villains or go around endangering Equestria again. It's a disservice to both these characters and the men who voiced them.
