After 115 kidney transplants performed in-country, Rwanda is now embarking on liver transplantation.
Minister of State @YvanButera met Prof. Dr. Hamdi Karakayalı, Director of the Liver and Kidney Transplantation Center and Chief Physician at Acıbadem Atakent Hospital, together with the Acıbadem Healthcare Group delegation from Türkiye.
They discussed working together to build liver transplant capacity in Rwanda, including training Rwandan specialists so that more patients can receive this life-saving care at home.

This is African solidarity in action.
At Kenya’s request, Rwanda donated 500 doses of remdesivir to support the response to Bundibugyo virus disease. Africa CDC facilitated this cooperation and handed over the treatment today in Nairobi to Mary Muthoni, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards.
We are also supporting the training of healthcare workers and facilitating the deployment of Ugandan experts to strengthen clinical care.
I commend Rwanda for its solidarity, Kenya for its leadership, and Uganda for sharing its expertise.
African countries standing together, sharing resources and expertise to protect African lives.
This is the Africa Health Security and Sovereignty Agenda in action.

This weekend , I was delighted to participate in the Canadian Conference on Global Health, in Montreal, Canada where I delivered an oral presentation on the research evaluating the impact of drone-based delivery of blood products on Postpartum hemorrhage-specific maternal mortality in Rwanda. This is the first paper for my doctoral thesis, a meaningful start of the second part of my PhD journey. I hope to share the paper with everyone once published by a peer-review journal.
I was also excited to participate in the first General Assembly meeting of the Canadian Association of Global Health(CAGH), an organisation I have been member for past 2 years ago.
One of the highlights was witnessing my supervisor, Professor Michael Law receiving the CCGH 2026 Vic Neufeld Mentorship Award in Global Health. I feel fortunate and wish every doctoral student to have a supervisor like him.Congratulations, Mike, on this well-deserved recognition!
It was also a great opportunity to reconnect with friends from Rwanda and meet colleagues from different corners in Canada.

On behalf of the government and people of South Africa, I offer warm congratulations to His Excellency President @PaulKagame and the government and people of Rwanda on securing a 10-year agreement to host the Formula 1 African Grand Prix.
South Africa shares in the pride with which Rwanda is preparing to fly the chequered flag for our continent with the hosting of a globally prestigious event at the planned Bugesera circuit from the early 2030s.
This contract is a recognition of the capabilities of the Rwandan nation and of our continent more broadly.
As host of the first Grand Prix on African soil in 1993, and organiser of other major global events, South Africa will be happy to provide any support we may be invited to share.
The F1 African Grand Prix is another lustrous addition to Rwanda’s growing collection of top international events, including the UCI-classified Tour du Rwanda cycling race.
Congratulations, Rwanda.
You are in pole position to make all of Africa proud and take motorsport to new heights.

Formula 1 has announced a landmark 10-year agreement to bring the FIA Formula One World Championship back to Africa, with the Formula 1 African Grand Prix, presented by @visitrwanda_now, set to join the calendar in the early 2030s.
The agreement marks the sport’s return to the continent for the first time since 1993.
