🆘🆘 SALLY (ID 268270), 17 YO, FEMALE – IN MANHATTAN ACC - came into the shelter as an owner surrender on 10/19/2026, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance - landlord won't allow. 🆘🆘 😿 😿 😿 😿
➡️TBD 10/31/26
➡️ SUPER SENIOR ALERT
➡️ 🆘🆘 1ST Chance on Emergency Placement List – VERY URGENT – 🆘🆘 😱🔥🔥😱
➡️ 11 DAYS IN SHELTER – TOO LONG – TIME IS RUNNING OUT
➡️ SALLY IS ON THE EPL FOR BEHAVIORAL REASONS - She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥
A volunteer writes: Sally is known to be a shy, quiet, calm and independent cat who is friendly, affectionate and playful when she feels comfortable with the person she meets. She does not seem to have ever mingled with kids, cats or dogs. Imagine how uneasy, lost and scared she must feel in a large busy shelter, alone in a kennel and mostly away from everything and everyone she knew for soooo many years...Sally is not having it. She tries to sleep deep in her cloud and mumbles when we address her. "Leave me alone! I do not belong here! I do not know you! Where is my home? Where is my family?" She shows some interest in food and grumbles while eating it, mostly when I approach her door. "Will you take that too?" Sally is an elderly gal, may be a bit younger than 17 (age stated by her owners). She is pretty, girly, her eyes are bright and she is dressed as a pretty grey mouse. No pet belongs to a cage and even less one who has spent sooo many years living comfortably and loved in a home. Sally is waiting for that special person who will believe in her, believe that there is a sweet soul behind the gruffy cat in a cage....Sally is waiting for you at the manhattan Care Center. What my friends at ACC say about me: I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. My favorite pastime is being visually admired! Pet me with your eyes! ❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻

🆘🆘 FANNY (ID 268008), 5 YO, FEMALE – IN QUEENS ACC - came into the shelter as a stray on 10/12/2026. 🆘🆘 😿 😿 😿 😿
➡️TBD 10/31/26
➡️ MEDICAL PRIORITY – NEEDS MORE CARE AND ATTENTION THAN THE SHELTER CAN PROVIDE –IN FELINE ICU😱😱😱
➡️ 🆘🆘 1ST Chance on Emergency Placement List – VERY URGENT – 🆘🆘 😱🔥🔥😱
➡️ 18 DAYS IN SHELTER – TOO LONG – TIME IS RUNNING OUT
➡️ FANNY IS ON THE EPL FOR MEDICAL REASONS - . Fanny has an aural hematoma, likely due to chronic otitis and ear mites. While her hematoma is healing, the chronic changes to Fanny's ear make it difficult to treat her ear issues to resolution as her right ear canal is significantly narrowed. She needs frequent cleanings and medication application and will need veterinary follow up. Behaviorally, Fanny is very sweet and loves pets, but she has escalated to swatting with claws in while having her ears cleaned. This evaluation/diagnosis means that FANNY will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥
What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I love getting pets and - you guessed it - snuggles! My purr motor is always running! I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. A volunteer writes: I heard Fanny's purrs as soon as I walked into the room but couldn't quite place where they were coming from. It was from Fanny who was curled up simply purring to herself. Fanny hasn't been dealt a fair hand, but her good hearted efforts and smile in response to coming up short don't stop her from trying and also break my heart. Fanny walked herself into someone's home several times and, eventually appearing a little worse for wear, was brought to us for some medical attention and a surer path to a forever home. She curled around my hand as soon as I offered it and continued purring, sharing her heart and her hope that things will turn her way any day now. Fanny interacts with the observer, appreciates attention and is easy to handle. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience, demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior, and understand she is being treated for a medical issue at the time of her assessment. ❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻

🆘🆘 UPDATE – UPDATE – POOR POOR LEO WAS RETURNED TO THE EPL ON 10/4/26 – LITERALLY ON BORROWED TIME NOW – BEYOND URGENT – LET’S HELP HIM GET SAFE 🆘🆘
➡️TBD 10/29/26
➡️ TOO LOW ON PLEDGES TO STIMULATE RESCUE INTEREST
➡️🆘🆘 20TH Chance on Emergency Placement List – I DO NOT RECALL SEEING A 20TH CHANCE ON EPL IN QUITE SOME TIME - TIME IS VERY VERY QUICKLY RUNNING OUT FOR LEO – SHELTER IS AT CAPACITY - ALL HANDS ON DECK - NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT/HELP LEO - HIGHEST EU/SILENT KILL RISK- VERY LIKELY LAST CALL🆘🆘 😱🔥🔥😱
➡️ 165 DAYS IN SHELTER – TOO LONG – TIME IS RUNNING OUT
➡️ LEO IS ON THE EPL FOR BEHAVIORAL REASONS - While social in the care center, he displays signs of overstimulation during interactions and has a bite/scratch history. He is extremely intelligent and high energy, and needs to expend energy constructively with interactive play sessions 3-4X/day. In addition to playtime, this cat would also benefit from mental exercise from activities such as puzzle toys/games, lick mats, or clicker training. Without providing activity for his mind and body, the cat may react with rough play, potentially resulting in bite/scratch incidents. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥
A volunteer writes: "Leo is a sweetheart who displays a lot of kindness, consideration for others, and affection," and honestly, that's all you need to know to understand why everyone here adores him. But there's even more to love. "He is very friendly. He tends to like to be around people, involved in whatever you're doing, and loves to sleep on our laps or at our feet." His previous family shared that Leo has always loved meeting new people, greeting visitors with enthusiastic head bunts, cuddles, and plenty of charm. That affectionate, social spirit shines through every day at the shelter. The moment someone walks by, Leo stretches his chunky paws up on his door, eager to say hello and hopeful that today might be his day. He rolls onto his back, reaches for attention, and greets each new visitor like an old friend. Leo is one of those cats who simply wants to be part of your world. Whether he's supervising your chores, soaking up affection, or flopping over for belly-up stretches, he brings a special mix of sweetness, goofiness, and companionship that has made him a staff and volunteer favorite. Leo is looking for the right home where his behavioral needs can be understood and managed. He has a history of getting extremely overstimulated. He would prefer a home without any children or any other pets. He needs lots of playtime and enrichment to help him settle in and live his best life. Beneath it all is a big-hearted, affectionate cat who has never stopped believing that his people are out there. We can't wait for the day this lovable boy finally gets the happy ending he's been waiting so patiently for. Leo is in need of some extra activity due to his weight gain in care. He would benefit from a strict diet and some exercise to help him on his weight loss journey❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻

A volunteer writes: Octopus gave birth in a laundromat. I guess, she wanted a clean environment for her brood. She was not allowed to stay and was brought to the Manhattan Care Center with her few days old babies. Octopus was stressed and had a very hard time nursing so the eight babes were placed and fed in an incubator. Octopus remained defensive with her caretakers and not open to having a trusting relationship with them. Lately, Octopus is showing signs that she might want to engage with staff and volunteers. She likes treats and as she spends more time on top of her hiding place than in, I presented her with a tray of high end cat food that I held. She came forward and after some hesitation and back and forth, she ate while I was with caution, petting her(see video). I was not so lucky with feather wands she seemed to be scared of. Nothing really is known about Octopus. Was she a stray, a pet who got out of luck? We all wish Octopus could be given a chance because even if she shows tiny improvements at the care center, being in a quiet home with a compassionate while experienced adopter or foster could be the light at the end of the tunnel for her...Will you be Octopus' hero? What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I'm an independent kitty who likes to do my own thing. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I would do best in a home without very tiny humans, although I could be open to older human children once I meet them. Octopus tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to her new home. ❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻

There’s a reason the great dystopian novels envision a world without literacy. Those books warned about the very age we’re now living in. Those who abandon reading & writing are surrendering their powers of thinking. What’s shocking is that so many would surrender so readily.

🆘🆘🆘😱😱😱😱 MEDICAL KITTIES - THE MEDICAL KITTIES ARE WAAAAYYY BEHIND ON PLEDGES - PLEASE CONSIDER THEM:🆘🆘
1. ORLANDO - (14X on EPL) - Orlando has a severe upper respiratory infection caused by feline calicivirus, that is causing him to have oral ulcerations and a low appetite. He allows all medical handling and is currently on supportive care (i.e. fluids, appetite stimulant, ant-nausea medication, nebulization, pain medication). He needs continued treatment and low stress environment out of the shelter setting where he can recover. NOT EATING/APPETITE ISSUES ARE A DEATH SENTENCE IN THE SHELTER.
2. UDON - (7X ON THE EPL) He is a sweet, young adult cat with a severe upper respiratory infection. He is not eating and needs supportive care in a veterinary clinic in order to recover. Behaviorally, Udon is caustious to accept pets due to FAS but he will tolerate handling for medical treatments. NOT EATING/APPETITE ISSUES ARE A DEATH SENTENCE IN SHELTER.
3. TRUCKER (4X on EPL)- Trucker is a senior cat that has been diagnosed with diabetes and dental disease. He is currently on treatment for diabetes mellitus with an oral medication called Senvelgo. Trucker will need veterinary follow-up to manage his comorbidities.
4. PRINCELY (4X on EPL) - Medically, he is not eating due to a severe upper respiratory tract infection. He needs supportive care in a veterinary clinic to recover. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. NOT EATING/APPETITE ISSUES ARE A DEATH SENTENCE IN THE SHELTER.
5. NOUGAT - Nougat is diabetic with diabetic neuropathy. He has been started on treatment for his diabetes. Nougat will need daily maintenance with their medical condition and further follow up with outside vet care. Nougat has allowed all handling.
6. LOLA JEWEL - - Lola Jewel came to the shelter with a history of seizures. She had never been on medication and it was reported her seizures were brief. She has started on medication for seizures, but has had 2 brief seizure episodes so far. She would likely benefit from different medications to control her seizures and from more individualized care. She is a sweet girl who has been taking her current medication with ease. Lola Jewel also has a mild upper respiratory infection.
7. RAY RAY - He has developed an upper respiratory infection that has stopped him from eating. Ray Ray so far will not let us handle him for treatments. He needs a quiet environment to heal and receive individualized attention. Ray Ray is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. NOT EATING/APPETITE ISSUES ARE A DEATH SENTENCE IN THE SHELTER.

Orlando has been extremely sweet and social with both humans and other cats. Although he was previously monitored for overstimulation while housed in a kennel, the additional space and freedom of the Free Roaming Room allowed him to display his tolerant, affectionate and relaxed personality. Given his history of increased stress in kennel, along with his current need for kennel housing to receive supportive care, placement outside of the shelter is especially important to help minimize stress and support his medical recovery. 🐾Meet Orlando! Orlando is a curious, very affectionate boy who is so ready to trade shelter life for his place to call home. Since arriving at the care center, this precious guy has come a long way, showing us that with time, patience, and room to feel comfortable, he has the sweetest personality and enjoys being the center of attention for cuddles and play time. He's also a lap cat, curling up with his familiar friends and making plenty of biscuits right into their pants. He has also been curious and respectful with the other cats. Orlando can be a sensitive soul when he's feeling unsure or overstimulated, so he'll need an adopter who understands cat body language and is willing to let him settle in at his own pace. Giving him space, respecting his boundaries, and allowing him to initiate interactions will help him feel safe and build trust. Like many cats adjusting to a new environment, he may just need some extra patience as he learns the ropes. You may find yourself with a loving best friend who enjoys being close to his people and soaking up all the snuggles. He's currently the beloved king of the Free Roaming Room, greeting visitors with sweet chirps and basking in the sunshine, just waiting for his people to finally, finally find him.🐾❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻

Orlando appreciates attention and petting and has opened up significantly and settled into interactions and soliciting attention while he previously was fearful or stressed in the shelter. He previously displayed significant overstimulation which may partly have been due to his level of FAS and adjustment to a new environment. He may be a little more conflicted or unsure as he adjusts and may need time to warm up to hisnew home and will require some patience and experience should he display some of his old behaviors. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an adult only home with an appropriate home set up to allow him to spend as long as he needs to fully decompress. A volunteer writes: I love it when cats knead to themselves. It looks like the most welcoming of kitten greetings, an adorable effort to make friends or a way to show the comfort and happiness they find in their world. Orlando seems to knead as a way of processing some very big feelings and while this makes him look very approachable, Orlando's preferred version of approaching means something a little different in the shelter. We don't know much about his life before the shelter as he was brought to us by police, but Orlando likes when we bring him treats and toys. He's eager to flop over onto his side when we pet him with our scratcher tool, but less so when we pet him with our hands. Orlando would love a chance to meet you and show you his kneads and the love he has in his heart.❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻

➡️ OREO GIRL IS ON THE EPL FOR BEHAVIORAL REASONS -She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display challenging behavior during interactions. She is extremely intelligent and high energy, and needs to expend energy constructively with interactive play sessions 3-4X/day. In addition to playtime, this cat would also benefit from mental exercise from activities such as puzzle toys/games, lick mats, or clicker training. Without providing activity for her mind and body, the cat may react with rough play, potentially resulting in bite/scratch incidents. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥
What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I have potential behavior challenges that staff will address with you when you meet me. Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! I am looking for a home with a patient person. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I would do best in a home with only adult humans. I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some feline body language together! I am playful and cute! I am not one to sit still! I will flourish in a home with someone that will keep me mentally and physically active! I love to play and will need appropriate toys and positive outlets for my energy. ❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻

Oreo Girl is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to scratch and bite in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. 💔😿💔😿

🆘🆘 OCTOPUS (ID 257915), 4 YO, FEMALE – IN MANHATTAN ACC - came into the shelter as a stray on 6/23/2026. 🆘🆘 😿 😿 😿 😿
🆘🆘 UPDATE – UPDATE – POOR POOR OCTOPUS WAS RETURNED TO THE EPL ON 10-18-26 – LITERALLY ON BORROWED TIME NOW – BEYOND URGENT – LET’S HELP HER GET SAFE🆘🆘
➡️TBD 10/27/26
➡️ TOO LOW ON PLEDGES TO STIMULATE RESCUE INTEREST

➡️ 125 DAYS IN SHELTER – TOO LONG – TIME IS RUNNING OUT
➡️ OCTOPUS IS ON THE EPL FOR BEHAVIORAL REASONS - She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥
