On this day in 1943, a 17 year old Dutch Jewish girl arrived at Sobibor with her father and sister (19) where she would have been murdered on arrival. Her mother survived the Shoah. Her name was Judik Viool

Lucy White has managed to get Britain’s ethnicity, religion and cultural history wrong in three paragraphs. Let’s examine the evidence.
1. “We have always been White.”
False.
African soldiers served in Roman Britain, including along Hadrian’s Wall. John Blanke, a Black trumpeter, served both Henry VII and Henry VIII.
Neither Roman Britain nor Tudor England was exclusively White.

Historically impossible.
People in Britain practised religions long before Christianity arrived. Roman Britain had numerous religious traditions. Medieval England had established Jewish communities, until Edward I expelled them in 1290.

3. “We have always been culturally homogeneous.”
Britons. Romans. Angles. Saxons. Vikings. Normans.

Even England’s language is heavily influenced by Scandinavian and Norman French.

According to the 2021 Census, England and Wales were:
• 81.7% White.
• 46.2% Christian.

And here’s the fundamental problem with your argument, Lucy.
Being historically majority White is not the same as being exclusively White.

You’re confusing historical majorities with racial and religious ownership.
You are perfectly entitled to celebrate Britain’s heritage. You are not entitled to rewrite its history without being challenged.
Patriotism means understanding your country’s history, not erasing everyone who doesn’t fit your preferred version of it.
The Union Jack belongs to British citizens of every race and religion.
That’s Britain. Not the imaginary ethnically exclusive nation you’ve constructed.

Reform UK Councillor Matthew Lambert lies about being a British Army Veteran
Wigan Councillor @MatthewLambertX stated on Facebook yesterday that he was an army veteran and had done 2 tours of South Armagh. This is a lie, he has not served in the Armed Forces.
@wigancouncil need to investigate what is a serious lie by their councillor.
This is a clear breach of the Wigan Council code of conduct: Section 7: Disrepute.
However it’s worse, because he’s claiming that @LisaNandy MP voted for the Northern Ireland Troubles Bill. The official division record shows Lisa Nandy voted against the Bill at Third Reading.
