On #UNDay I think of what the UN looks like from the other side: a tent against the rain, a classroom far from home, the chance to start again after leaving home.. I know what that chance means. It was part of my story. Advancing these values has been the privilege of a lifetime.

#Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amb. Abdullah Al-Saadi, met with UN Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Yahya @Momalindi, to discuss the humanitarian repercussions of the Houthi militias’ military escalation, the worsening humanitarian crisis - particularly in #Taiz - rising internal displacement, and mounting pressure on host communities.
Ambassador Al-Saadi called for urgent international action to end the siege of Taiz, protect civilians, ensure unhindered humanitarian access, mobilize humanitarian funding, and secure the immediate release of UN personnel and civil society organization workers arbitrarily detained by the Houthi militias.
Thank you, Ambassador David Lametti, for a valuable exchange.
We deeply appreciate Canada's leadership in defending international humanitarian law and its steadfast support for flexible humanitarian aid to @OCHAFunds.
These efforts help us reach people in greatest need.

Syrians are going home. That is real progress.
But for many, return marks the beginning of a new struggle.
Damaged homes. Scarce jobs. Schools and hospitals in ruins. Millions still depending on humanitarian aid.
Sustain the funding. Protect the fragile progress already made.
200,000 people displaced in Yemen since August alone. The crisis has sharply worsened.
Yemen has endured a decade of this. Concern is not enough.
In my first briefing to the Security Council: Protect civilians. Open the roads. Fund the response. Find a political solution.

Always a pleasure to meet brilliant colleague Awa Dabo, Deputy High Commissioner at @UNHumanRights. We brainstormed how OCHA and OHCHR can work even more closely together.
Human rights and humanitarian action are not parallel tracks. They are the same road.
Lets build together.
