A 35-year-old man living in Ireland just shared the full story of why he’s considering ending his marriage. He met his wife in 2017, they got married in March 2022, and had their son in December 2022. Everything seemed fine until the baby arrived. His wife’s older sister (two years older than his wife) started coming over almost every weekend “to help.” At first he didn’t mind, but once they settled into parenthood he asked her to ease up on the frequent visits. She didn’t. She kept finding new reasons to come and stay over. In 2023 she got a new boyfriend and the two of them started showing up together with even weaker excuses. In 2024, while he was working from home, his wife and her sister arranged for the sister to use their apartment for “practice” without telling him. When he confronted them, his wife said she forgot. The sister apologized and claimed she thought he’d already been informed. He shut that down: the house is not for business use. They moved into a new place in 2025. Within days the sister-in-law announced she wanted to come and stay over. He said no. He called her directly and told her she could come help them unpack, but she had to sleep at her boyfriend’s place (15 minutes away). Almost immediately his wife accused him of blocking her family and trying to control her. The sister began telling people he was denying her access to her nephew. His wife even told his own sister that the sister-in-law and boyfriend “aren’t comfortable” visiting when he’s around. He got furious and told everyone he no longer wanted anything to do with them. He became strictly cordial. He warned his wife that if she invited them, he would simply leave the house because he would see it as her choosing them over their own family. In February this year, his wife and her sister quietly planned a trip out of the country for the weekend of his wife’s birthday. He only found out in April. He told her it was unacceptable, but that she should go ahead and plan her future with her sister if that’s what she wanted. She ended up not going, but the interference didn’t stop. His wife is now 30 (turned 30 in May). He says she keeps pretending not to understand the boundaries he’s raising, and he believes it will only get worse. He’s currently considering ending the marriage. When I asked if the sister was the older one, he confirmed yes. older by two years. He also clarified the ages: wife turned 30 this year, he’s 35.
