Jeffrey Christian has a warning about silver. The deficit everyone keeps citing does not exist.
His firm built the original World Silver Survey in the late 1980s. He knows where the numbers come from.
Here is the trick. Do the math properly and silver runs a surplus, not a deficit.
To fake a deficit, marketers fold investment demand into fabrication demand. Suddenly the market looks tight.
And nobody can check. Silver is one of the most secretive markets on earth.
The lesson is not that silver is bad. A deficit headline is often a sales pitch in a data costume.

Most of what you hear about gold and silver is wrong. Jeffrey Christian says that is because people treat it like a religion instead of doing the math.
@jchristiannyc1 joins the Gold Exchange podcast to separate fact from fiction. Fort Knox is audited every year and the gold is there. China is not secretly underreporting its reserves. And the silver deficit everyone cites does not actually exist, it was invented by marketers to sell you a tighter market.
His rule through all of it: do not invest on your beliefs, invest on your knowledge.

When gold took off last year, Americans did the exact wrong thing. Dana Samuelson says they sold the rally instead of buying.
They saw the price jump and cashed out for stocks. They never understood why gold was running.
The rest of the world did. It was rising on a real loss of trust in the US.
So the world bought while Americans sold.
Sitting on the reserve currency, they never had to think like everyone else.

Gold keeps running and most Americans cannot figure out why. @DanaSamuelson99 says the rest of the world already knows.
He joins the Gold Exchange podcast with the answer.
The world went on a gold buying spree. Americans sold into the rally, confused about why it was happening.
The reason is trust.
The world no longer trusts the dollar, especially once a country learned its dollars can be turned into hostages.
Sitting on top of the reserve currency, Americans are the last to notice.
China keeps buying gold no matter the price. Dana Samuelson explains why price does not matter to them.
He joins the Gold Exchange podcast with the number. China holds about 4 percent of its reserves in gold. Other countries hold 15 to 18.
They are not chasing a price. They are filling a gap.
And it is not to back the yuan. It is a hedge against other currencies failing.
The sharper reason everyone is buying now. Hold dollars outside the US and cross it, and they can become hostages.

The yen just flashed a warning most US investors ignore. Dana Samuelson says it is a big deal.
For over a decade the trade was easy. Borrow yen cheap, reinvest it at higher rates, pocket the spread.
But that only works while the yen stays stable. Once it starts skidding, the spread vanishes and the trade unwinds.
And this one has been building for years. Unwind it too fast and it ripples out, which is why they stepped in.
He puts it simply. It is like pulling yarn on a sweater. Keep pulling and soon you have no sweater.
That is the kind of signal that sends people back to gold.

Gold just pulled back, and a lot of people got nervous. Dana Samuelson thinks the bottom is already in.
First, perspective. This is gold digesting the biggest run in its history, and that always takes time.
It held where it mattered. Support near 3,950 on gold and 55 on silver, both held.
Then came the real tell. The US and Japan jumped in together to prop up the yen, something that almost never happens.
That kind of coordinated move signals real distress in the currency markets. And the moment it happened, gold and silver caught a bid and climbed.
That is why he is now confident the bottom is in. The catalyst already showed up.

For forty years, central banks were net sellers of gold. Then the printing presses turned on after the great financial crisis and they started buying. After Russia invaded Ukraine, they doubled their buying.
@DanaSamuelson99, president of American Gold Exchange, shared a framing in a recent conversation on The Gold Exchange that captures why in one sentence. Grant Williams said it at the Rule Symposium: if you hold dollars outside your country and fall out of favor with the United States, your dollars can now become hostages.
That insight reframes the entire central bank gold buying story. It is not primarily about backing currencies or preparing for a grand monetary reset. It is about geopolitical risk management at the sovereign level. A country that holds its reserves in US Treasuries is exposed to a risk that did not meaningfully exist a decade ago: that those assets could be frozen or seized as a political tool. Gold held in your own vaults carries no such risk.
China currently holds approximately 4% of its reserves in gold relative to yuan value. Most other countries hold between 15 and 18%. That gap is why China keeps buying regardless of price. It is not a trade. It is a strategic reallocation that still has a long way to run.
Dana joined The Gold Exchange to work through what that means for the gold price going forward.

When gold took off last year, most Americans sold into the rally. They did not understand why it was rising.
The reasons were global. Central banks doubling their gold purchases after Russia invaded Ukraine. India and China buying aggressively. A world quietly reducing its exposure to dollar-denominated assets.
@DanaSamuelson99, president of American Gold Exchange, joins The Gold Exchange to work through why most Americans are missing the gold story, what the interest payment on US debt doubling in two years actually means for purchasing power, and where precious metals go from here.

You keep hearing we are running out of gold. Grades falling, discoveries drying up. Jeffrey Christian says the opposite is true.
Many mines that opened in the last decade are higher grade and lower cost than the old ones, thanks to better technology.
Then there is the cruel part. Mining investment runs completely backwards to the price.
Gold rises, money floods into miners. By the time the mine finally produces, the cycle has turned and the price is falling.
That is the trap. The supply shows up exactly when it is least wanted.
After 40 years, the one thing he has changed his mind on. Gold makes more sense than ever as a core part of your wealth.

A top Goldman investor once told Jeffrey Christian that gold is not an investment, it is a religion.
Jeffrey’s reply is the most useful thing a gold owner can hear.
He did not argue the point. The market really is crowded with people who treat gold like faith.
His counter was sharper.
If you know more than the believers, you can be on the right side of that, and actually make money.
Because the believers do the opposite. Brilliant business people who built fortunes will hear a guru online say gold is going to 10,000, and just buy it.
The fix is one line he lives by. Do not invest on your beliefs, invest on your knowledge.
Or as Warren Buffett put it, if you do not understand it, do not buy it.

Jeffrey Christian just poked a big hole in the paper gold panic. The people holding those contracts never wanted the metal.
The fear is that paper contracts far outnumber the physical silver behind them.
But on COMEX, 99 percent of contracts never settle in metal. They close out in cash.
Because that 99 percent does not want silver. They want price exposure, 10 percent down to ride the move.
Kill the futures market tomorrow and they do not buy bars. They go back to stocks and bonds.
The paper was never a claim on the vault. It is a bet, held by people who never wanted metal.

The internet is convinced China secretly hoards far more gold than it admits. Jeffrey Christian says the numbers are accurate.
Having worked with the People’s Bank of China since 1981, he trusts their monthly reserve reports.
The confusion is one thing people miss. Monetary reserves are not the same as all the gold a government holds.
He saw it with the Soviet Union. They reported 12.9 million ounces while sitting on an estimated 67 million.
When one republic demanded its share of the full 67, the central bank said go talk to the Red Army.
China is not lying. People just do not get what the number counts.
