Binance, the world’s biggest crypto exchange by trading volume, just got hacked for more than $6 billion, in what’s being called the biggest such hack ever. What happened? Binance thinks hackers broke into an employee’s laptop. They used it to get into Binance’s system and send the money to themselves. Investigators at TRM Labs have traced the attack to a North Korean hacking group. Is your money safe? Binance says yes. It’s promised to cover every loss using its emergency fund and its own money. So far, about $3 billion of the stolen crypto has been frozen, which means the hackers can’t move or spend it. What can you do on Binance right now? You can still put money in, but you can’t take it out yet. Binance says withdrawals should become available within two days. Nobody saw this one coming. Analysts expected Egypt’s central bank to hold interest rates steady. It’s the first hike since March 2024 and comes days after the U.S. dollar rose past 56 pounds for the first time. The CBE’s interest rates are now: - Up from 19% to 20% for deposits - Up from 20% to 21% for lending If you’re planning to open a savings account, banks often update their returns after a rate hike, so new offers may look different in the coming days.
