I know it's been a few days (had to do real-world #space and #spacepolicy) but the deployment mechanism for #NailSat works!! Next step, integrate the timer. And make a little sabot cup thing for nails.

I should make clear that this is, technically, NailSat2. The first NailSat was great but had no deployment mechanism, snake-based or otherwise, so it only sorta counts. It also used a receive-only radio, which I'm concerned could give a regulatory hook. teapawt.net/i/status/1563587506695…

Somehow my posts are getting unlinked from each other. Ah well. Trying to shove them all in this thread.
We have had one problem to overcome so far. I turned off the furnace in the workshop because it was too noisy for videos, and now it's cold. Quick application of a dapper turtleneck sweater and we are back to building.
Ok but WHY #NailSat? What's the motivation, and why has this been a thought experiment for me for years? Also a quick primer on U.S. #spacelaw and #spacepolicy.
But what about the #OuterSpaceTreaty? Surely chucking nails everywhere would run afoul of that. Right?!?
Bending metal, as they say in #spacecraft and #satellite manufacturing. Is that a saying in all manufacturing? Anyway, in this case it's more cutting a pencil with a Dremel and hot-gluing things together.
