Assistant Mitch Johnson will coach the Spurs tonight against Minnesota. Pop is not feeling well and will sit this one out.

Been hanging in quaintly picturesque downtown Lille, near the train station, talking to folks about arson on the railway between here and Paris, and about the Olympics in general.
Guy in Golden State t-shirt, a local, pulls out his phone and wants to show me something.
My amazing friend Mark Vancil, author or 4 previous books about (and with) Michael Jordan, has written another volume in which Jordan is prominently featured. This one – The Last Excellent Man: The Meaning of Our Jordan Year – is so much more than a Jordan hagiography.
Does Vancil take on the debate about basketball’s G.O.A.T.? Oh, hell yes. Even the latest generations of recency-biased hoops junkies will be forced to reckon with the evidence presented that the G.O.A.T remains Jordan.
If you want to understand the excellence attained by icons like Jordan, Muhammad Ali, Taylor Swift, Steve Jobs and others, read this book. Vancil breaks it all down for the rest of us while also explaining the meaning of what he calls Our Jordan Year, 2023.
RIP T. J. Simers. A good friend who had valuable advice when I got my first assignment to a pro sports beat even though we were on opposite sides of one of the last great newspaper wars (Denver Post vs. Rocky Mountain News).
He will be missed
So sad, passing of Walter Davis, great NBA shooter and lovely person. We became pals when, at age 36, he struggled having to play for worst defensive team in league history, '90-91 #Nuggets. Only his great sense of humor and contagious laugh got him through.
Un-retired and now writing again for The Athletic. Here's my first column

Deeply saddened by news of passing of Wayne Cooper, a friend since my first year as Nuggets beat writer for Denver Post in 1985. Never met athlete with sweeter disposition. Consummate pro in every sense as player and executive. #RIPBigCoop
