Onion prices have about tripled in Lagos since May. A large bag now goes for ₦150,000 to ₦250,000, up from ₦50,000 to ₦70,000, per Legit.ng's market reporting from late September. Traders and the onion producers' association blame flooding in northern states, higher transport costs and fuel. Viral posts claiming a 900% jump to ₦300,000 for a 120kg bag are not backed by that reporting.
Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka, a Quran-focused preacher in Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, was shot dead outside his home on Monday evening by gunmen on a motorcycle. Police confirmed the killing and say they are investigating. Amnesty says he had faced threats for years. Tinubu has ordered security agencies to find the attackers.
