In today's #vatniksoup, I'll introduce a South African-American(!) businessman and social media figure, Elon Musk (@elonmusk). He's best-known for being the wealthiest man in the world, running Tesla Inc., SpaceX & Twitter, and for parroting Kremlin's propaganda narratives. 1/24

This Muslim sister is standing up against LGBT activists who are trying to indoctrinate children with the LGBT ideology at schools in Canada. She is heard saying: "My daughter is a girl, my son is a boy"

There is no good reason for fur farming, and when it comes to farming small carnivores -and especially within their native range, it comes with a major spillover risk -yet this has fallen outside major regulatory changes anywhere, and has much less biosafety than large farms

Why is Alberta seriously hamstringing higher education, the place where we grow informed citizens, scientists, medical professionals, economists, social scientists, arts and humanities experts and more - people that help save, enrich our society, rebuild our economy… Now?
Some Alberta post-secondary institutions left relatively unscathed while U of A funds slashed, new data shows cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/…

This, from dailymail.co.uk/news/article…, is such unbelievable bullshit - 33% of human proteins have four consecutive positive charged amino acids.

Labs should be funded with a small long-term core funding, with competitive funding used for short-term boosts on dedicated projects. The current system is structurally unsound
Innovation in science is dependent on our ability as scientists to take risks & try new things. But how are we expected to take risks & try new things in a funding climate where many of us feel like we are 2 or 3 bad grant cycles away from not having funding to run our labs?

This is a really excellent thread on how to be a good scientist.
Inspired by Women in Science day 2021, I want to share some thoughts about things that I think help ensure success in science.

Pangenomes are going up, and ever expanding because we are sequencing far more than before. With less sequencing we would show fewer genes!
Cases are going up in the U.S. because we are testing far more than any other country, and ever expanding. With smaller testing we would show fewer cases!
