today i learned that Elon is also getting into 3D-printing human organs in space
and the end goal is printing entire replacement hearts and kidneys up there
the reason they do it in space is actually pretty simple:
> an organ only works if it has the exact right shape, down to the tiny blood vessels
> but you can't really print that on Earth
> because freshly printed tissue is as soft as jelly, so gravity makes it sag and the shape collapses
> but obv in space nothing pulls it down, so it holds its shape perfectly
> so they let it grow up there for a couple weeks until the cells knit together and it's firm enough to survive gravity
> then they bring it back home
so far they've only printed small patches of heart, knee cartilage, kidney and liver tissue
but if this works at scale, the 100,000+ Americans waiting on a transplant could get a new organ printed in space instead of waiting for a donor
today i learned that Elon is getting into space drugs
it's called Starfall and it's basically a flying drug lab
> drug companies pack their ingredients into a 10-foot-wide capsule
> a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carries it into orbit
> the drugs grow on their own with nobody on board
> then the capsule falls back to Earth and parachutes into the Pacific
the reason they go through all that hassle is that drugs come out way better when they’re made in space
because the tiny crystals they’re made of grow evenly up there instead of lumpy like they do on Earth
take Keytruda, the best-selling drug in the world
scientists grew its crystals on the space station, which helped turn it from a 2-hour IV drip into a 1-minute shot
and the craziest part is that some medicine might only be possible to develop up there
for example: scientists couldn't get clean crystals of a key Duchenne muscular dystrophy protein on Earth
but the ones grown in space finally showed its shape and led to a new drug that went into human trials
so i think space will unlock a whole new class of drugs that are impossible to make on Earth

Writing this in my personal capacity, but I have been flying these types of aircraft for more than 20 years, with over 8,000 hours, and have reasonable familiarity with how the charter world operates. I feel compelled to post after seeing commentary about the Lear 60 crash, from missile strikes to DEI to critiquing this poor woman’s final radio calls.
That last part is what I find most troubling. She was the second-in-command (SIC), and while she was empowered to point out mistakes as part of good crew resource management, she was doing her job, communicating with ATC right to the end in a terrifying situation. She likely knew before many of those calls that she was going to die. I have heard final calls from friends, from military pilots with thousands of hours in fighter aircraft, and they are just as heartbreaking because they know the end is approaching.
I understand the public interest given the footage and audio. But you do not know the aircraft’s maintenance history, whether there was a structural failure, if any failure was induced by turbulence, overspeed, or overcontrol, or everything happening in that cockpit. I am sure weather will be part of the investigation, but beyond that, it is speculation. The charter industry routinely hires commercial pilots very early in their careers to gain experience alongside an ATP-qualified captain before they move up to the airlines. She would still have the appropriate training, qualifications, and checkouts by an FAA examiner or designee.
Let people investigate, learn, and share the facts. Be respectful to those who perished and the families who carry their memories. God bless them and their loved ones.

this might be my last normal tweet before biotech goes vertical
i'm not a whistleblower. I don't work at Lilly, Novo or any of the big labs
but there is a massive shift happening in human biology right now.
it's sitting in press releases and almost nobody reads them
the last 6 months alone:
- a once-daily pill roughly doubled median survival in metastatic pancreatic cancer (13.2 vs 6.6 months)
- a one-time gene editing infusion cut hereditary angioedema attacks 87%, and 62% of patients stayed attack-free and off all other prevention for 6 months
- a one-time gene edit for cholesterol dropped LDL up to 62%, and it held for over a year
- a personalized mrna vaccine beat keytruda alone in a 1,137 patient melanoma phase 3
- retatrutide hit ~28% weight loss in a phase 3
- an ai-designed drug entered phase 3
- a pill that regrows hair passed its second phase 3
- an immunotherapy that could let some rectal cancer patients skip surgery, chemo and radiation just got fda approved
- a man lived 271 days off dialysis on a pig kidney
- human cells were caught passing chromosome-sized chunks of DNA to their neighbors, and it changes how the neighbors behave
we are on the verge of an era where the human body is a software problem and the update cycle gets shorter everyday
stick around, it's going to get weird

It's the final countdown 🎶
We're one step closer to Roman's first images! The observatory is now fully functional and the team is performing their final checks and calibrations before starting science observations.

JUST IN: A California space startup has illuminated a section of desert near Mount Whitney at night, demonstrating how future satellites could deliver sunlight to Earth on demand.
Reflect Orbital conducted the October 10 test using powerful ground-based spotlights to simulate sunlight redirected from orbit by large reflective mirrors.
Working with China Lake Mountain Rescue, the company illuminated terrain across roughly three miles, allowing rescue teams to conduct nighttime searches, stretcher carries and other emergency-response exercises.
Reflect Orbital ultimately wants to deploy satellites capable of directing sunlight toward specific areas on Earth after sunset, potentially supporting emergency operations and extending electricity generation at solar farms.
The company received FCC authorization in July for its first experimental satellite, Eärendil-1, which will use an 18-meter reflector to test the concept from orbit.
The October demonstration used ground-based lighting. No orbital mirror has yet demonstrated the proposed capability.

JUST IN: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declares “We will make sure” Tesla's flying Roadster is street legal in Florida.
Elon Musk just revealed how INSANE the new Tesla Roadster's downforce is
“This car really sucks, okay”
And he ment that literally 😂
The Roadster generates so much suction that it literally sticks upside down
But the really incredible part is what this means on a racetrack
The car is designed to accelerate and corner so hard that it looks like it's breaking the laws of physics
Elon: “It's gonna crush every track record that has ever existed”
Tesla just pushed the limits of what a car can physically do

CERN and Mistral just announced plans to train an AI on BILLIONS of simulated proton collisions. Not books. Not conversations. The fundamental interactions of matter itself.
The goal is to identify particles and detect unexpected signals in the data. We're entering an era where AI could reveal patterns in the universe that humans have never recognized. What happens when it discovers something we don't even have a theory for?

The statue of Prometheus is finally finished.
It was cast in Paris, crossed the Atlantic, and was assembled at Starbase. It took us 100 days to go from nothing to this.
People of the West, we have lived through an era devoid of dreams, devoid of destiny.
But the time has come to reclaim our dream of antiquity.
In a few months, we will start building a new city. It will be the most magnificent city in all of history.
After all, the great dream of the West has always been to rebuild Rome.
Come walk beside us in this endeavor. The world is waiting.

Power changes what’s possible on the lunar surface.
Our Power Tower is a 20-meter-tall, vertically deployed solar array system designed to provide more than 10 kilowatts of power for Moon Base operations at the lunar South Pole. Its modular architecture will support future surface networks, extending power beyond the lander to the assets that need it most.
Explore the concept in our animation below, then watch a successful real-world deployment: youtu.be/wcirOp_E2J0
