The best moment is weeks before budgets are set, or right after a visible win. The worst is the week something went wrong.
Ask your manager when salary decisions are made. Most people never ask.

3. Bring evidence, not effort.
"I work hard" doesn't move budgets.
"I took on X, saved Y, and now cover Z" does.
Write down three results from the last 12 months, with numbers where you can.

Research what your role pays in the market: job adverts, recruiters, people a level above you. Then pick a figure you can defend.
