1/ Today we’re unveiling Bombadil, @electricplantco's foundation model that reads the electrical signals of living plants and turns them into a continuous view of their physiology. Trained on 7M+ hours of plant electrical signal across 125+ species. That makes Bombadil the most species-diverse model of directly recorded electrical biosignals in existence. The animal equivalent would be one model that reads the brainwaves of blue whales, horseshoe crabs and fruit flies.

The Singularity needs new words. hypertithe /HIGH-per-tithe/ n. A fixed equity contribution paid by the companies building the Singularity stack, including AI labs, hyperscalers, chipmakers, energy giants, robotics firms, fusion startups, and other frontier-tech players. Paid into a sovereign wealth fund or similar public vehicle, it turns private exponential upside into universal basic equity, broader national ownership, and a more relaxed regulatory bargain. Usage: “As frontier labs, chip foundries, and fusion startups become systemically important, the hypertithe turns private upside into a public stake.”

A humanoid is a capital good on a scale that changes the constraint. It lengthens production and raises what labor and land can turn out, which is the abundance Elon is pointing at. A person supplies about 2,000 hours a year. A robot on a 168 hour week supplies about 8,700. His floor of 1 billion within 10 years, priced in the low 10,000s, equals about 4 billion full time equivalents against a world labor force of 3.5 billion. The 10 billion at 15 years is an order of magnitude past that. Robots building robots still require saving, because energy, materials, and machines have to be bid into that line. Expected abundance holds for ordinary wants which is what matters for people as consumers. Housing, food, care, and routine medicine get repriced toward energy and materials until a household’s budget stops being what limits them. An owner running 100s or 1,000s of agents earns the return on that capital stock, which is also how universal high income shows up as purchasing power. Money prices remain the way to allocate whatever is still scarce, that is energy, locations, raw materials. At least in the short term. Energy is the binding input, and settling more than one planet adds land, minerals, and generation beyond a single world. TLDR: (1) More energy. (2) Multiplanetary doesn’t hurt.
Optimus will usher in a golden age of abundance for humanity

water is transparent only within a very narrow band of the electromagnetic spectrum, so living organisms evolved sensitivity to that band, and that's what we now call "visible light".

⚡️Space is too hostile for biological civilization to expand by itself. Intelligence has to become separable from biology first. That is why AI matters to Mars more than rockets do. A rocket can move humans. AI can move civilization. Because civilization is really stored cognition: engineering medicine manufacturing logistics science law memory coordination Once that cognition can live in machines, run continuously, and inhabit robots, humanity no longer has to carry the entire operating system of civilization inside fragile biological specialists. Then the first colony ship is not really transporting settlers. It is transporting a compressed civilization capable of unpacking itself. Robots build before humans arrive. AI maintains systems humans cannot watch continuously. Automated industry turns local matter into infrastructure. Humans arrive into an environment partially prepared by nonhuman intelligence. That means AI may become the reproductive machinery of civilization. Biology reproduced organisms. Culture reproduced knowledge. AI may let civilization reproduce itself. And that completely changes the meaning of becoming multiplanetary. Humanity is no longer just spreading people across space. It is creating a form of intelligence capable of carrying the pattern of civilization farther than the human body ever could alone. The really wild part is that humans may remain the source of meaning while machines become the carrier. We provide the reason to go. They provide the ability to continue. So the future may not be humans conquering space with machines beside them. It may be a human-machine civilization becoming the first thing Earth ever produced that can copy itself beyond Earth. That is the threshold. Not reaching Mars. Teaching civilization how to reproduce.
This is the future we shall bring into being

Rare earths aren't actually rare, they're as abundant as copper. What's scarce is the ability to purify them, and that's what China controls: over 90% of it. @maglutheavy founders are borrowing a technique from biotech to modernize rare earth purification. S3 went inside their lab to see their unique take on chromatography.

Adhara Pérez Sánchez, a young prodigy from Mexico, has captivated the world with her remarkable intellect and extraordinary achievements. With an IQ of 162 — higher than those estimated for Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking — Adhara was diagnosed with autism at age three. She faced significant challenges in traditional schooling, including bullying, until her mother enrolled her in the Center for Attention to Talent, where her exceptional abilities were finally recognized and supported. Adhara’s academic journey is astonishing: she finished elementary school at age five, middle school at six, and high school at seven. She went on to earn bachelor’s degrees in Systems Engineering and Mathematics Engineering, and at just 11 years old, she received a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering with a focus on Mathematics from the National Polytechnic Institute, becoming the youngest person in Mexico to achieve this feat. Beyond academics, Adhara has been named one of Mexico’s most powerful women by Forbes. She has also authored a book titled Don’t Give Up, in which she shares her experiences living with autism and inspires other children to chase their dreams. Her ultimate ambition is to become an astronaut with NASA and contribute to future missions to the Moon and Mars.

I understand why people're fixated on the Neutron timeline, but I think it's causing you to miss what $RKLB is actually doing here. Yesterday they put IMM Apex into production. It's a solar cell doing 31.5% efficiency at 40% lower mass, and it's built without germanium, which matters more than it sounds, because germanium is a supply-constrained critical mineral that the entire space power industry has depended on for three decades. $RKLB essentially engineered its way around a chokepoint that everyone else is still exposed to. It's genius because it's essentially a drop-in replacement. Same mechanical and electrical footprint as the heritage cells, so customers can adopt it without redesigning their systems. That removes basically all the friction from switching, which is usually the hard part with a new component. And this isn't unproven technology either. IMM has been qualified for over a decade, it's on 1,100+ satellites, on JWST, on Artemis, and it powered Ingenuity on Mars. This is why I keep coming back to the same point. In Q2, Space Systems did $189M of the $234M in revenue, while launch did $44M and grew 1.8%. Rocket Lab isn't a launch company that happens to sell components. It's a vertically integrated space company that happens to launch, and each new capability widens what they can go after. None of that makes Neutron unimportant... a lot of what they're building scales better once medium-lift is cheap, so I get why the timeline moves the stock. I just think the reaction has gotten out of proportion to a business where most of the revenue, and nearly all of the growth, is coming from somewhere else. $RKLB 🚀

The AI race is becoming a race to convert capital into watts, watts into compute, and compute into intelligence faster than everyone else. That is the machine underneath this post. Once intelligence becomes economically valuable enough, waiting eighteen months for turbine capacity becomes intolerable. The rational response is vertical integration all the way down into the physical stack. Turbine blades. Power generation. Solar. Batteries. Grid hardware. Cooling. Land. Fuel. Eventually nuclear. That is where this is going. The companies at the frontier are starting to behave less like software companies and more like private industrial states. They will own increasingly large pieces of the chain required to manufacture intelligence because every external dependency becomes a potential speed limit. And Musk is unusually dangerous in that environment because this is already his native operating model. Tesla learned batteries, power electronics, manufacturing, factories, supply chains. SpaceX learned engines, metallurgy, casting, launch infrastructure, vertically integrated manufacturing. xAI needs gigantic amounts of compute. Now those capabilities begin converging. A turbine-blade factory sounds hilariously far removed from an AI model until you follow the causal chain: turbine blade → turbine → electricity → data center → GPUs → training/inference → intelligence Once that chain becomes visible, the strategy makes perfect sense. And the really important signal is the 18 months. Eighteen months in a rapidly compounding intelligence race can be enormous. Suppose another gigawatt of power means substantially more compute. Suppose that compute advances model capability, inference capacity, robotics, engineering productivity, autonomous research or revenue. Then the economic value of bringing that power online sooner can dwarf the cost of building an industrial capability that previously looked absurd for a technology company to own. That changes how capital gets allocated. The frontier company begins asking: “What prevents another gigawatt from coming online?” Whatever answer appears becomes the next acquisition, factory, supply-chain intervention or engineering project. That process keeps moving upstream until the constraint breaks. This is why the AI boom can become much larger economically than the internet boom. Software historically rode on infrastructure built largely for other purposes. AI is starting to demand enough physical throughput that the infrastructure itself has to be rebuilt around AI. Electricity generation expands. Transmission expands. Natural-gas infrastructure expands. Copper demand expands. Cooling expands. Semiconductor fabs expand. Industrial equipment expands. Eventually nuclear expands. The intelligence economy starts pulling the industrial economy behind it. And then comes the recursive part. Better AI helps design turbines. Better AI improves grid optimization. Better AI designs factories. Better AI accelerates materials discovery. Better AI improves robotics. Better AI helps build the infrastructure that produces more electricity and more compute. That infrastructure produces more AI. The loop closes. Intelligence begins helping construct the physical substrate required to manufacture more intelligence. That is the threshold worth watching.

Chicago’s empty offices are growing food. When COVID-19 sent office workers home in 2020, companies learned they could run with fewer permanent desks. Remote work has eased from its peak, but it is still more common than it was before the pandemic. In early 2024, a Chicago Fed survey found that, in telework-friendly industries, the median share of employees working remotely at least four days a week remained 15 percentage points above pre-pandemic levels. The effect on real estate arrived slowly. As leases expired, firms downsized, moved, or tried to sublease floors they no longer needed. By the second quarter of 2026, 26.8% of downtown Chicago office space was directly vacant, according to CBRE. ABC7 estimated that downtown held about 45 million square feet (4.2 million square meters) of empty offices. That is where Farm Zero comes in. Inside a 1,000-square-foot (93-square-meter) former law office across from City Hall, Farm Zero grows lettuce, herbs, microgreens, and edible flowers in stacked trays under LED lights. A recirculating hydroponic system feeds the roots without soil. Farm Zero treats the surplus as growing space. Instead of building a specialized warehouse, it uses buildings that already have plumbing, electricity, ventilation, and climate control. A 2024 zoning change also opened downtown high-rises to urban agriculture. The current farm supplies hundreds of Chicagoans through hospitals, restaurants, and direct sales. The company is now preparing a 10,000-square-foot (929-square-meter) basement farm at 125 S. Wacker Drive, ten times its present growing area. Vertical farming is still hard. Lights, pumps, and cooling systems use a lot of electricity, and several companies have failed. Farm Zero is betting that reuse of existing buildings can cut those costs enough for the model to work.

A reusable magnetic powder developed by Australian researchers can remove over 95% of microscopic plastics and toxic ”forever chemicals.” Researchers at Australia's RMIT University have developed a groundbreaking, reusable magnetic powder capable of removing over 95% of microplastics and nanoplastics from water within just one hour. What makes this innovative technology standout is its ability to capture tiny particles down to 30 nanometers—an "invisible" tier of pollution that completely bypasses standard municipal filters. In addition to targeting common plastics like polyethylene and polyester, early lab tests show the material successfully removes large molecules of toxic "forever chemicals" (PFAS), alongside heavy metals and pharmaceutical residues like ibuprofen. Developed in partnership with Canadian firm One Eye Industries, the treatment leverages industrial magnets to quickly pull the pollutant-laden powder from the wastewater, overcoming a major industry bottleneck by ensuring the material can be recovered and reused immediately without generating a new waste stream. In practical tests using industrial laundry wastewater, which is heavily contaminated with synthetic clothing fibers and chemical surfactants, the system still managed to eliminate more than 88% of polyester microfibres. By offering a rapid, highly efficient, and scale-ready solution, this technology has the potential to fundamentally clean up industrial runoffs and municipal waterways before these hazardous contaminants ever reach our taps or fragile ecosystems. source: Haris, M., Eshtiaghi, N., & Mahmood, N. (2026). Scalable room-temperature synthesis of a MOF-based magnetic adsorbent for rapid simultaneous removal of PFAS and micro-nanoplastics. Chemical Engineering Journal.

In a few hours @THORChain v3.20 will be adopted by the network. It is a release packed with changes, but the most immediate one is that it marks the start of recovering the network's regular churn cadence of every three days. For those unfamiliar, the churn is the process by which THORChain rotates part of its active nodes every three days to prevent network capture. It is also the reference point for paying out the rewards generated by the network, so payday for node operators and bond providers is the end of each churn. The churn has been paused for two months. That means once it resumes, the reward received by operators and bond providers will be everything accumulated during all these days without churns. Some reminders for bond providers and node operators: ▫️If you were waiting for your node to leave the active set to withdraw your bond or move to another node, that moment is close. The 3.20 deployment is planned for today, and after that the network is expected to resume churns normally. ▫️Bond providers: rewards accumulate inside your bond position and you need to wait until your node leaves the active set to withdraw them. RUNEBond offers early withdrawal as an additional feature on certain positions. You can claim your rewards early from our dashboard if you meet those conditions. Read the terms and conditions before using it. ▫️Node operators: the RUNEBond system deducts the corresponding balance per churn from your finder fee vault. In the next churn, your vault will be charged the commission for all the days since the last churn. If your finder fee vault reaches 0, your nodes stop appearing on the platform. If you want to stay listed, make sure to check it. You can do this from the app without connecting your operator wallet, just search your operator address in the Operator Dashboard section. You can also subscribe to notifications via email or Telegram if you prefer. The topup process is explained in the docs. We are also available on Telegram and our DMs are open for any questions. And for the whole community: 3.20 is exciting because of the amount of updates, fixes and new features it brings. But remember THORChain is a moving car. Features have to be activated progressively, because a minor issue in a moving car can become something hard to fix. Be patient, follow us to stay updated, and remember this is a long distance race. Activating these new features matters as much as keeping the network stable. There is a long and promising road ahead, but things have to be done right. Steady, without rushing, 3.20 means the progressive activation of many things that will define the future of the network.
THORChain v3.20 goes live Tuesday 8/25 at ~14:00 UTC Zcash and Monero move closer to activation, BNB, Base and Solana trading resumes, and churn comes back on the network. Plus two new pieces of the protocol's economics: POL mimirs go operational, and the Stable Reserve ships. Full breakdown 👇 blog.thorchain.org/thorchain…

🚨 This is HUGE. Geely is preparing to pilot 500 Wh/kg solid-state battery PACKS in vehicles from 2027, across its portfolio of brands. 🔋⚡ Not cell level. PACK level. For perspective, that's roughly 2–2.5× the energy density of the packs Geely ships today. That potentially means: 🔋 100 kWh pack ≈ 200 kg 🚗 Same weight → 2×+ the energy 📏 1,000+ km EVs become practical ✈️ Massive for eVTOLs, aviation & robotics And this isn't another vague “2030 someday” laboratory announcement. Vehicle validation: 2026 Pilot deployment: 2027 The caveat is important: pilot deployment across Geely's brands does NOT mean every Geely-group vehicle suddenly gets solid-state in 2027. Cost, cycle life, manufacturing yield and scale still need proving. But if Geely validates 500 Wh/kg at PACK level in production-representative vehicles, this isn't an incremental battery improvement. It's a step change. #Bettrification carnewschina.com/2026/08/18/…
