HUGE NEWS: This month, Durham is going to be massively reshaped by the real estate industry.
The industry is asking to lock in place over 400 football fields worth of land for permanently unsustainable single family sprawl.
City Council is unlikely to demand it to be walkable.

I loved running into @PrincipalJHop at the SoDu Farmer’s Market. He’s building relationships with students & families. I heard there is a contest to vote for a mascot. Missing from this photo is the line of families waiting to meet him. #WeAreDPS #SomosDPS

I really never believed this would happen. Not like this. I just thought yes they’ll go into the occupied territories in the Donbas. I never thought there would be a coordinated attack. Kyiv, Kramatorsk, Kharkiv. I have just been in all these cities.

I was invited to give an MLK speech today and a small number of members of the group hosting me wrote and then leaked emails opposing my giving this speech, as it dishonored Dr. King for me to do so. They called me a "discredited activist" "unworthy of such association with King"

A hugely important moment made possible by generations of Black activists & organizers in Virginia. As is always the case, there were people who long fought for this statue to come down who never got a chance to see this moment for themselves, but their work made this possible.

Replacing a below-average principal with above-average one can add equivalent of 2.9 months learning in math and 2.7 in reading during the school year. Studies show similar replacement for teachers adds equivalent of 3.7 months in math, 3.8 reading. #princpalsynthesis

To her credit, at every turn Stacey Abrams goes out of her way to say that this wasn't just because of her. She tells folks that she's just one part of an ecosystem of organizers who have been doing this work for years. She knows it was a team effort, we should all remember that.

I find myself thinking of Dr. King a lot this morning. I started covering him early in the Civil Rights Movement, when defeats outnumbered victories. But I saw in him a steadiness and unshakable belief in the justice of his cause. He never gave up, and he moved mountains.
