"Schools have a role to play in supporting bilingual children as the adults working there are part of the child’s extended family, so if the child sees that they value their language they will feel that their identity belongs there." -Dr Francesca LaMorgia thetimes.co.uk/article/raise…

Glad to see Canadian universities are changing their colonial mindset application process for English speaking international students. "You are made to feel that no matter how well you think you speak this language, your language is inferior.”  theglobeandmail.com/canada/a…

Families are asked to complete the Peel board’s Return-to-School Survey to help us plan for students’ and staff safe return to school. A second survey, where families will be asked to confirm plans for their child(ren), will be sent in August. 🔗pdsb.me/returntoschool

This will be our last post until the fall, so feel free to explore these activities. You can choose to check these off or maybe even get into the habit of doing them on a regular basis. Enjoy and stay safe! #peelconnected @peel_fc @PeelSchools #MindfulnessMonday

"My ideal ally is willing to go outside of her comfort zone to have discussions about race, gender, ethnicity, religion and all of the other pieces of our identity that are deeply personal."
What an ally looks like to me is someone who is aware that our kids will walk through life differently. huffp.st/jqz6mTB

So I have had this idea floating in my mind. I want to connect Black students with Black professionals in the careers they may be interested in, as well as the ones they may have never considered. But, I need help to find Black professionals who would be interested 1/2.

In 1980, Terry Fox, an amputee, set out to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. He needed help, so he wrote to Adidas asking for shoes. They sent him 26 pairs. The company is now re-releasing the same shoes, with all proceeds going to cancer research.

A newcomer to Canada joined class 1A @ThornwoodPS this month. We can't be at school to welcome him but thought of ways to do it even while isolating at home! @PeelSchools youtu.be/94H_Rn5LEXo
