As Nigerians, we need to develop a greater sense of self-awareness. Beyond the way many Nigerians constantly de-market the country online for social media validation, we also know how some of our compatriots conduct themselves in other African countries and the negative impressions their behaviour creates. Personally, I am not surprised by the disrespect Nigerians sometimes face abroad. That doesn't mean I will tolerate it from anyone, but I would be dishonest to pretend I don't understand where some of these perceptions come from. We cannot constantly ridicule our country, denigrate our passport, and turn every "japa" experience into content designed to humiliate Nigeria, then act shocked when others begin to see us through that same lens. Criticising Nigeria is one thing; making a spectacle of its shortcomings for validation is another. So, the next time you feel the urge to publicly trash the country for likes and engagement, remember that you may be contributing to the very disrespect you complain about. National pride doesn't require pretending our problems don't exist. It requires understanding that how we speak about our country, and how we conduct ourselves abroad, have consequences.
I saw someone from Mauritania spewing hate towards Nigerians and I was like???? I don’t even think about people from other parts of Africa, I don’t know about their politics, economy, culture etc but yet they know so much about us

One thing I cannot tolerate at this grown age is someone who acts like cause and effect don't exist. Yes, your actions caused this outcome, so why are you standing there shocked and playing the victim✌️

🩵🤍 Lionel Messi’s message: “The moment has arrived. I leave in peace, I gave it my all”. “This shirt was my dream, my pride, and my life for years”. “Thank you for loving me so much, thank you for support”. “I will always carry you with me”.

"Thank you for loving me" the little boy from Rosario said as he took his final bow. No, Leo. We thank you. You were the joy of our teenage and adulthood - because across civilizations, political enclaves and nationalities, we might not speak the same language but we all spoke Messi. You made magicians quiver because the swiftness of your feet made the firmaments stop. You made sorcerers question the potency of their charms because of the precision by which your strikes split the wind. You made giants look mortal & levelled them. You made defenders forget their names - left them with cracked ankles. You made goalkeepers stare into the emptiness of their nets - wondering what had just passed them by. And somehow, Leo, you did it all with a rolling leather at your feet, a smile that made the impossible look ordinary & strides that mirrored the silhouettes of gods. My Leo. Oh my Leo, I type this with tears bubbling in my eyes. We watched you grow. We watched you become a man carrying the weight a club & eventually an entire generation upon shoulders that never seemed built for such burdens. We watched you stumble. We watched you lose. We watched you walk away and we watched you come back. That's what makes you the Greatest Of All Times because greater than the goals, greater than the trophies, greater even than the records - You reminded us that greatness is not the absence of failure. That sometimes the smallest amongst us can cast the longest shadow. I wasn't born in the civilization that cracked industrialization, I wasn't born in the civilization that made coffins fly in the sky but how lucky I am to be born in the civilization whom you found worthy to voyage through with your gift, My Leo. We will tell our children about you, about that night in Mexico - with the World Cup clenched in your palms. We will tell them about the night your fathered orphans in Madrid. We will tell them about the careers you ended in Camp Nou. No, don't thank us, Leo. We thank you. For the memories, the magic, the joy, the friendships you fostered across the globe, your love for the game and for making us believe. Rest now, Leo. We don't know what football would look like moving forward - Stadiums will eventually go dark in silence, boots will hang in museums, numbers will get passed, records might get broken. It doesn't matter. You were the man, the myth, the god, the game. And when we all lay crumpled one day, old in our dying beds and someone asks us what being football looked like being young - We shall all chant: Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾 Messsi. 🙌🏾

The things that God is using my hands to do, (this doesn’t include the things I do with my hands that God didn’t send me) I have no doubt in my mind that I am doing what I was sent to do here! That’s my greatest joy.

Brighton were excellent today. Full credit to them. The Amex has always been a tricky ground, and Brighton away is one of those fixtures that can humble any team. I knew we’d lose at some point this season; I just didn’t expect it to be this emphatic. It hurts, but one bad day doesn’t erase everything this team has built. We move. On to Leeds United. We’ll be back. Don’t lose your heads because we lost one game. The season is a marathon, not a sprint.

LRTs. Your big wins are still big wins even when they aren’t posted to social media. We really must learn to win without noise. Especially when there are other risks involved. Social media is a borderless world, it’s okay to pretend to be used to being in these spaces/countries. It really is okay. Alternatively, do your victory dance in your WhatsApp groups.

Arsene Wenger was banned for three games and fined £40k after this confrontation with Mike Dean in 2017 👀: 🗣️ Wenger: "You're not honest" 🗣️ Dean: "So you're calling me a cheat?" 🗣️ Wenger: "I maintain what I say; you're not honest. You've done this to us many times before. You're supposed to be professional; you're a disgrace!"
