Many of you following along with #LizzoAtLOC were surprised that the Library has a flute vault. We are the largest Library in the world & home to more than 173 million objects, so there are many more surprises like that in our collections. Enjoy this thread of just a few of them.

The Gabriel Garcia Marquez Library just opened in a working class neighborhood in Barcelona. It’s magical. It’s real. And it’s the kind of place that makes you wonder why every city doesn’t give its residents palaces for the people. #library

As temperatures continue to climb today and tomorrow, review these accessible and easy options for keeping yourself cool, as recommended by @TheLancet medical journal.
And don't forget to check multco.us/hot frequently for the latest info about cooling resources.

ALT Here are some simple ways to keep cool when it’s hot: Drink cold water. Wear wet clothes. Soak your feet in cold water. Spray yourself with water. Put a damp towel in the freezer or crush ice into a damp towel and hold the towel against your neck and chest. If the temperature is below 99 degrees, use an electric fan if you have one. Above 99 degrees a fan can make your body lose water, so it’s important to drink extra water or use one of the other cooling options above.

As forecasts show temps potentially surging to triple digits tomorrow, 4 overnight cooling shelters & 1 daytime cooling center will open July 26. City & County are monitoring forecasts and will add cooling sites as needed to ensure no one is turned away
