I’m liking this AquaMAX #P1089AMXT more each week as I look at ear flex and drought tolerance under very limited irrigation.

Spider mites are a pest that can be costly in NW Kansas. Two things going on here. 1. Spider mites up on V19 thanks to the wind. 2. The western predator mite cleaning up an infestation across this field. Predator mites are a great help if they come in early enough.

I am seeing plenty of this moth this week in Sherman Co of NW Kansas. Its the 1st generation of European Corn Borer. I have not seen this many in allot of years. If you have conventional corn or just RR corn be on the look out.

Smoked this Canada Thistle with a combo of Resicore + Durango + Fultime. Application was about 2 weeks ago. Some of the thistle was 3ft tall. Job well done.

June 11. Finding Banks grass spider mites in V4-V6 corn 6 spans into the corn field here in Sherman Co. Kansas. Predator insect the ladybug was also spotted. Maybe predators can hold this pest in check. Be on the look out.

I’m liking the chopping corn headers, especially for heavy residue strip till in NW Kansas. The timing of emergence is consistently improved.

Great day for Crop Science. Teaching the new Pioneer Agronomist for NW KS and SW NE, Chris Weber the ropes of hand planting a high pH hybrid observation plot.

#Sweet Corn Season 2021 is underway Sherman Co. KS. Soil temp under the plastic was 70 this morning. Planted today 68 day corn under the far garden patch. I’m expecting harvest around July 1st. M’mmmm good. 🌽🌽

Sherman County, KS. Can find wheat fields that are thing and variable. Are you thinking of destroying and going to plan B? Make sure to check moisture profile. This field after 2019 milo only has 2ft of useable moisture. Rains a month ago helped but will need more for a crop.

I was surprised to find this weed showing up already, or maybe I shouldn’t be. Kochia emerged on February 28th in Sherman County Kansas.

If the drought monitor doesn’t turn around soon, we might see raccoons hauling water to the sweet corn this summer 😬
A historical look at the US Drought Monitor evolution from the the end of January by growing season.

Great day for Crop Science. Next to last step in population X hybrid trial on dryland on newer hybrids in NW Cheyenne Co KS. Had some rain and great residue to make this a SUCCESS. Next step is harvest later this week. Stand by for rest of the story.

Plot observations in Sherman Co KS today. #QromeAdvantage looking good across the territory. Looking forward to #harvest2020 on the irrigated fields. The 113 CRM hybrids need about a week to reach full black layer. My experience has been that slow grain fill is a good thing.

With soybean mst’s down to 9-10% this week, we’re on the downhill side of the top yields seen last week. On-farm data shows fields that were mid-80’s last week with 12-13% mst are 7-10 bu/ac less with 9-10% harvest mst now due to harvest losses + mst shrink.

I’m harvesting the last sweetcorn patch today for 2020. This was the 4th planting. Started eating sweetcorn July 8th. Will have enough to last into the first few days of October. Its been good.

Dryland corn plot observations today. Fields that ran short on moisture and ears drooped have a pinched and dried out ear shank. The grain is very dry and doesn’t take much to knock the ear off. Expedite harvest as soon to reduce field loss. We dont need a big blow right now.

These garden spiders are getting real big this time of year and I hate it when I face plant into one of their webs when walking a corn plot or field.
