Tributes to Cormac McCarthy by two great but different institutions that shape me. His "Operating Principles" for the @sfiscience. And an essay at @commonwealmag, first published in 2016: commonwealmagazine.org/corma…
Lots to like about this piece. Attention to early uses of polarization in other fields (physical and natural sciences!) and re-tethering it to early politics and political science lends it great validity.
What is political polarization? It is more than a clash of ideologies or identities. It is a breakdown of basic democratic trust -- the end of democracy as “the only game in town.” Online first, open access: Rethinking Political Polarization doi.org/10.1093/psquar/qqad0…
Inspiring leadership and major moves towards #openscience and #fairdata in democracy studies by @univienna team, @pazmandy, and @georglutz.

At what age (on average) do you imagine that money starts leaving your Venmo account faster than it enters? With 2 20somethings and a teen with a new Pixel, I'm definitely on the net deficit side of this equation.
I'm fully in on this, disciplinary incentives be damned. My post-tenure life of reading broadly is so much richer than my pre-tenure life of trying to satisfy subfield peers.
Great visit by @kmmunger to Notre Dame, elaborating on this paper into the normative case for the US to ban TikTok. I counted faculty from at least 7 departments in the room.
