California has long been a national leader in serving veterans, service members and their families. New legislation signed into law continues that commitment by making meaningful changes that can make a difference in the lives of veterans and their loved ones.

As Trump attacks women’s reproductive choices, I signed new bills strengthening California’s nation-leading protections on reproductive rights and maternal health. We’re expanding access to care for students and vets, bolstering perinatal and postpartum care, and allowing health professionals to serve more people.

SB 296 has been signed into law, creating a property tax exemption for eligible 100% disabled veteran homeowners. Beginning in 2027, eligible homeowners may receive a 50% exemption on the first $1 million of their home’s value.

This morning, Cal Expo hosted its annual Sept. 11 Memorial Ceremony. Bill Feigles, Deputy Secretary for CalVet Home Loans, read Governor Gavin Newsom’s official proclamation declaring Sept.11, 2026, as Patriot Day in the state of California.

25 years later, we still remember where we were, who we lost, and the heroes who ran toward danger. Today, we honor the lives forever changed by September 11, 2001, and the courage, compassion, and sacrifice that followed.   Forever honored. Never forgotten. ❤️
