Mastercard is building its AI agent payments on a crypto protocol.
x402, from Coinbase, settling on Base. It paid $1.8 billion for stablecoin firm BVNK to get there.
Still a pilot, no launch date. Doesn't matter. When a card giant picks crypto rails for machine payments, the "is crypto useful" debate is over.
Cards were built for people buying lunch. 87% of x402 payments are 10 cents or less.
