I am forced to conclude that the reason so often it is men who are in defence of Russell Brand, is because the nature of his crimes forces them to ask questions of themselves and of their friends, regarding their behaviours around women.

I would add this: Brand is man who was clearly sexually prolific, and very much used to getting his way in this regard, and therefore the best defence that can be offered is from a woman who confirmed that when he did not, that he behaved appropriately.
