Justin Sanders: A Championship with a Deeper Meaning
For Justin Sanders, racing has been a lifelong passion that began at just eight years old. After tagging along with a family friend to the Tulare Kart Club, Sanders knew he wanted to race. Despite a rough start that included spinning out while leading his first race and a trip to the hospital, he stuck with it. He eventually transitioned from go-karts to junior sprints, micros, and ultimately a 360 sprint car at just 15 years old.
Over the years, Sanders has built an impressive résumé, with his first World of Outlaws victory at Stockton and his 2023 Dirt Cup triumph standing among his proudest accomplishments. Both victories came after overcoming challenges, something Sanders knows is simply part of the sport.
“Racing is a never-ending challenge with constant highs and lows. Racing is ever-changing, and you have to learn to keep up,” Sanders explained.
Behind the wheel, Sanders considers patience and consistency his greatest strengths, focusing on maintaining a steady pace early before striking when it matters most. His goals remain simple: win as many races as possible and continue adding his name to prestigious Crown Jewel and memorial events.
But Sanders is quick to recognize that his success wouldn’t be possible without the people who helped him along the way. From his father sacrificing so much to fund his early racing career, to his good friend Wayne Priddy introducing new technology and innovative ideas, each has played an important role in his journey.
Among those influential figures was the late Tim Green, a legendary racer and crew chief who Sanders credits with teaching him the ins and outs of building race cars.
Following Green’s passing last week, the NARC season finale carried an even deeper meaning. Sanders capped off his season in remarkable fashion, winning both the final feature event and the NARC championship, dedicating both accomplishments to Tim Green.
For a driver who says he’s simply out there having fun, racing, and making a living doing what he loves, this championship represents far more than another title.
It’s a tribute to the people who helped him get here, especially Tim Green, whose knowledge, mentorship, and legacy will continue to live on through the racers he influenced.
