Last week’s NE1 Business Breakfast took us to @freightisland, giving businesses the opportunity to experience one of Newcastle’s newest hospitality destinations.
From live music to corporate events, Freight Island is a significant new addition to the city’s hospitality offer.
Following the event, we caught up with a member of the Freight Island team to hear why they wanted to host the Business Breakfast and showcase the scale and versatility of the venue to Newcastle’s business community.
Great North Run week is officially underway in Newcastle.
This morning, we joined Great North Run founder Sir Brendan Foster, artist Mul and local press and content creators at Fenwick to mark the start of a special Great North Run takeover.

The iconic Fenwick window has been transformed with a new Mul x Great North Run design, alongside a pop-up shop where visitors can personalise GNR clothing and get an early look at this year’s medal and finisher’s T-shirt.

We'd like to thank our partners Freight Island and North East Mayoral Strategic Authority, whose support has helped make Quayside Carnival even bigger and better this year, allowing us to create more zones for families to explore.
Registrations of interest from businesses are now open for 2027, so if you'd love to find out more about how you can get involved, please email [email protected]
Following the Leader of Newcastle City Council, Cllr Colin Ferguson’s strong public support for the repeal of Newcastle’s Late Night Levy, Stephen Patterson, Chief Executive at Newcastle NE1, has made the following comment on the levy and its future.

300,000!
We’re delighted to have reached a huge milestone across Newcastle NE1 social media channels, with our combined audience now exceeding 300,000 followers.
Across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn and X, our channels showcase Newcastle city centre at its very best, from supporting and promoting our brilliant businesses to sharing major events, new openings, city developments and everything happening across the NE1 area.
A huge thank you to Shine North East members, who generously gave up their time this month to clear litter from the Quayside.
Volunteers collected an impressive 645kg of waste across 43 bags, helping keep one of the city’s best-loved locations looking its best.
