ALT Spectra Festival is Aberdeen’s Festival of Light. This year, the theme is ‘Home’ and we want to pay tribute to the exciting festival lighting up our city. Our buildings, 31 and 33 King Street, have been Aberdeen Arts Centre’s ‘Home’ for nearly 60 years. Thinking about what a home can mean started us thinking about how we might celebrate Spectra Festival and 60 years of Aberdeen Arts Centre. Leaving a candle in a window to guide people home has been a symbol of sanctuary for centuries. We light candles to celebrate birthdays and remember loved ones. Candles are a comfort when we have power cuts and when we want to coorie in and relax. We will be lighting the windows of 31 King Street, the Children’s Theatre, with 60 candles. Each candle represents a year of Aberdeen Arts Centre bringing light, in the form of arts, into Aberdeen.
