It was the only time I can recall, where the committee graded on a team based on future performance. As opposed to past performance. I have never seen that done to any other team.

Never forget when Mike Norvell led Florida State to an undefeated season and got left out of the College Football Playoff…
Life altering decision

The last time Florida State was open, it was considered an elite job with a candidate pool full of big names.
That won’t be the case this time. In the new era of college football, FSU is no blue blood.

This is so touching AND I’m still glad Norvell is gone. AND I also won’t forget how Norvell tried to recruit over Jordan with the dude from UCF and it took Dilly to set things straight.

Jordan Travis shares an emotional message thanking Mike Norvell for believing in him and giving him a chance.
“You believed in me in some of the hardest moments of my life when no one else wanted to give me a chance. That will hold a special place in my heart for the rest of my life.”

I still contend that Florida State getting shafted in 2023 is one of the travesties of college football. They were literally an undefeated power 4 champion and had the best defense in the country. They just beat a top 15 team by 10 points in a neutral site with a new QB. But FSU didn't make as much money for ESPN as Alabama or Texas (especially with a potential Alabama Texas rematch) so they were left out.
Jokes on the committee though. They didn't get that Texas Alabama rematch they wanted. Both teams lost.
Tell me - what blue chip athlete would want to play for a team who can go undefeated and still get left out of a 4 team playoff? It's no wonder FSU struggled after that.
It was unforgivable and did perhaps irreparable damage to the sport. I know Texas beat Alabama by 10 at their place, but it would have been more forgiveable to put Alabama in over Texas than to put them both in over FSU. FSU should have been a lock. – at Maple Bluff, WI
