A sermon is not a lecture. It is not absorbing trivia. It is a heart-shaking assault on darkness and the very gates of hell, trumpeted forth so that sinners tremble and saints quake in wonder.

I’ve benefited from Barrett’s work. I’m unsurprised by his shift. Baptist distinctives seldom, if ever, made an appearance in his work. But I’m disappointed in the demonstrated ignorance and sloppiness of his parting swipes against baptists.
I share Haykin’s sentiments.

How did Robert Hall the Elder, a Presbyterian, become a Particular Baptist? 🧵
Hall sought to stop the spread of the Particular Baptists in Hamsterley, Durham, who had claimed his older brother, Christopher Hall, ordained him to the ministry, and had even married one of them.

"It is fundamentally wrong to say that Baptist witness as we see it in the seventeenth century was a product of modernity and its deeply ingrained individualism. That shows a woeful ignorance of the Baptist worlds of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries"

I would highly recommend the work of @BaptistRenewal and @LondonLyceum.
These sites are filled with serious Baptist scholarship.

You should, in fact, imitate the hermeneutic of the apostles. They interpreted the Old Testament the way Jesus taught them. Their writings are inspired, and thus their hermeneutic is completely trustworthy and accurate.

🔥EPIC GIVEAWAY🔥
Tuesday was the official release of my new book with @ivpacademic, Walking the Way of the Wise: A Biblical Theology of Wisdom. It's the latest addition to the ESBT series (edited by @DrGladd and @L_MMorales).
To celebrate this week's launch of Walking the Way of the Wise, IVP is giving away--again!--an ENTIRE SET of the ESBT series. The series is magnificent, and I want it to be yours!
To enter, simply repost this announcement and tag a friend.
While I have you here, follow this account and check out my Biblical Theology newsletter (see profile), where I write regularly about the Bible and theology.
The winner of the giveaway will be announced this Saturday, June 7th.
I hope you'll keep my new book on your radar for yourself and others. If you'd like to support the launch of the book, a simple post online can have a great ripple effect! And reviews on major book sites are super helpful.
Join me in thinking about what it means to walk wisely with God, who has made us for His glory and who upholds us on the narrow way that leads to life.
