2. They know they are bull shitters. They don’t believe anything they are saying and are trying their best to ride the AI wave to as much money as possible.
This fills me with genuine rage
we're making @blocks smaller today. here's my note to the company.
####
today we're making one of the hardest decisions in the history of our company: we're reducing our organization by nearly half, from over 10,000 people to just under 6,000. that means over 4,000 of you are being asked to leave or entering into consultation. i'll be straight about what's happening, why, and what it means for everyone.
first off, if you're one of the people affected, you'll receive your salary for 20 weeks + 1 week per year of tenure, equity vested through the end of may, 6 months of health care, your corporate devices, and $5,000 to put toward whatever you need to help you in this transition (if you’re outside the U.S. you’ll receive similar support but exact details are going to vary based on local requirements). i want you to know that before anything else. everyone will be notified today, whether you're being asked to leave, entering consultation, or asked to stay.
we're not making this decision because we're in trouble. our business is strong. gross profit continues to grow, we continue to serve more and more customers, and profitability is improving. but something has changed. we're already seeing that the intelligence tools we’re creating and using, paired with smaller and flatter teams, are enabling a new way of working which fundamentally changes what it means to build and run a company. and that's accelerating rapidly.
i had two options: cut gradually over months or years as this shift plays out, or be honest about where we are and act on it now. i chose the latter. repeated rounds of cuts are destructive to morale, to focus, and to the trust that customers and shareholders place in our ability to lead. i'd rather take a hard, clear action now and build from a position we believe in than manage a slow reduction of people toward the same outcome. a smaller company also gives us the space to grow our business the right way, on our own terms, instead of constantly reacting to market pressures.
a decision at this scale carries risk. but so does standing still. we've done a full review to determine the roles and people we require to reliably grow the business from here, and we've pressure-tested those decisions from multiple angles. i accept that we may have gotten some of them wrong, and we've built in flexibility to account for that, and do the right thing for our customers.
we're not going to just disappear people from slack and email and pretend they were never here. communication channels will stay open through thursday evening (pacific) so everyone can say goodbye properly, and share whatever you wish. i'll also be hosting a live video session to thank everyone at 3:35pm pacific. i know doing it this way might feel awkward. i'd rather it feel awkward and human than efficient and cold.
to those of you leaving…i’m grateful for you, and i’m sorry to put you through this. you built what this company is today. that's a fact that i'll honor forever. this decision is not a reflection of what you contributed. you will be a great contributor to any organization going forward.
to those staying…i made this decision, and i'll own it. what i'm asking of you is to build with me. we're going to build this company with intelligence at the core of everything we do. how we work, how we create, how we serve our customers. our customers will feel this shift too, and we're going to help them navigate it: towards a future where they can build their own features directly, composed of our capabilities and served through our interfaces. that's what i'm focused on now. expect a note from me tomorrow.

Hey @USPS how did you manage to lose the CREMATED REMAINS of my 135 pound dog LABELED "cremated remains" and have no additional updates for me???? Just wondering!

Conservatives backing themselves into a corner where they have to pretend to be excited to watch 55 year old Kid Rock on their phone at halftime tonight is funnier than anything we could say or do to them.
This is a hilarious response to someone calling out the Trump administration on being buds with Epstein. Goal posts remain moving. This guy probably complained that dems weren’t releasing the Epstein files at some point during Biden’s tenure
I was this kind of voter in 2016. I took it very seriously. The left had a real opportunity at that moment to be sane and normal and to create a real divide on this issue.
Instead they went insane with social justice nonsense, culminating in peak weakness and riots in 2020. At exactly the moment they were trying to convince the world that they were the same alternative, they went completely nuts.
And then their next “reasonable, normal candidate” let in unprecedented numbers of illegal immigrants.
I don’t believe that there are any reasonable candidates, anymore. You had me. And you lost me. For at least right now, it looks like it’s just the bad choice that aligns with my policy preferences, so far as I can tell.
The disconnect here is that the center left still thinks it’s their very reasonable guy against the morally corrupt asshole. But nobody thinks your guy is the reasonable guy, anymore. Nobody thinks that. You completely lost the voters on that front. You had a golden opportunity to be better, and you blew it.
And I just think that’s completely your fault.
I love how these guys aren’t mentioning it cost them $80k in tokens. It’s beyond parody to continue to brag about something that’s not from scratch, doesn’t work, and costs the salary of a low level dev for just a week of work. BUT BROWSER EH?

AI issues aside, the only way you could ever write something like this is if you've never experienced real creativity yourself. Creativity is not about the amount of output you generate per unit time, and anyone engaged in a truely creative (not derivative) endeavor knows that.
Creators should LOVE Ai. AI doesn’t make uncreative people creative. It allows creators to become exponentially more creative.
Creative iteration that used to take hours , days or weeks, can happen in minutes.
The different routes you wanted to take but didn’t have the money or skill to do. Now you can do.
The number of gatekeepers drops every day and will eventually hit zero.
If you know how to tell a great story, you will LOVE AI.
99 % of content fails. With AI the cost and time it takes to experience and learn from those failures drop like a rock.
The people who should HATE AI are those that try to control distribution and the creative process because they are the ones that control platforms and tools.
It’s all going to change. Only this time it won’t take decades like it did with streaming.
The GOP has been the party of hypocrisy as far back as I can remember. It's why I turned to the left despite being raised in a conservative family. They continue to up the bar with each passing day

We've become completely desensitized to it but it's genuinely unreal how corrupt this admin is. Tinpot dictatorship stuff.
Yes, that is the US Attorney General getting paid $1.38M to lobby on behalf of Qatar, and yes she did approve a $400M private jet as a gift.

People around here realize that one of the characteristics of tyranny is immunity from prosecution, right?
The amount of people I see here still rooting for Deshaun Watson is sad. Sports fandom is weird sometimes
