Trade in bats must stop! Our new paper, led by @BronwenHunter highlights scale of online trade. Most buyers from Europe and N America; most bats from Global South. Some platforms are tightening rules, but still easy to find @AmazonUK. @_BCT_ @BatConIntl url.uk.m.mimecastprotect.com…

This is what the #ClimateCrisis looks like. It’s caused by industrial emissions from fossil fuels and intensive meat and dairy, and yet the Govt continually fails to do anything about it. #nzpol

Article about how the DOC AI Cam was instrumental in helping track the rat that was captured on Motutapu Island. Nice work @docgovtnz stuff.co.nz/nz-news/35043707…

Tracked on thermal imaging camera, and eliminated: The one rat on Motutapu island

Trail and AI cameras revealed the rat’s “behaviour, routes and favourite locations” and that there was only one to catch.

Did you know that it's around 70% of all bat species that eat insects? What percentage do you think are fruit bats?

Well the Godwit have started to arrive back in NZ with at least 500 arriving on Thursday and with a suitable weather window in Alaska we are expecting the bulk to arrive over the next week. There are a couple satellite tracked birds on the move

Recommendations that 🦇 shouldn't carry tags weighing >5% of their #body #mass was postulated by #Aldridge & #Brigham (1988) in @Mammalogists This 📰 in #MammalReview goes back to 5% rule and quantifies the effects of 🦇 tagging with a meta-analysis. 🔎onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

Frog content. Back in 2020 I talked to the wonderful Phil Bishop about our Archey's frog (he's since passed away). I asked him to tell me some cool things about them being the amazing science communicator he was, he obliged. Cool things in thread. 1/5

i was so surprised while writing this article to learn that our marine conservation SUCKS -- it's one of the worst in the world. we love to pretend NZ is clean and green, but our fisheries seriously lack glasnost + any solid stats regarding our oceans. thespinoff.co.nz/kai/20-05-2…

How are the stocks of the fish on the iconic poster going? ‘Munted’, says one expert | The Spinoff

Another technical answer: 'no one really knows.'
