Today the UK confirms our continued commitment to the people of Afghanistan. The UK will provide £105m a year for the next three years, delivering life-saving aid through trusted partners to support the most vulnerable, especially women and girls.

Honoured to speak in the historic Churchill Room at the UK Parliament as a @SussexUni graduate. I urged UK leaders to keep Afghanistan a priority by supporting local development&protecting education. For Afghan women, access to learning is the difference between hope and despair.

As a @CheveningFCDO alum, it’s devastating to see the UK Home Office reject visa exemptions for scholars from Afghanistan, Sudan & Myanmar. We are turning our backs on the leaders we hand-picked to support. thepienews.com/uk-rejects-vi…

This is appalling. The Home Office rejected appeal from foreign secretary Yvette Cooper that would have protected outstanding students in some of the world’s most dangerous countries from changes to UK’s immigration system.
Shabana Mahmood turned down proposals from Foreign Office to maintain carve-out for Chevening scholars, a government-funded programme for “exceptional individuals” to study for a master’s degree at a UK university.

On this International Women’s Day, I’m sharing a video conversation featuring me on the ongoing exclusion of Afghan women and girls from education.
Please take a moment to watch and share.

Behind every academic journey is a family’s belief. Deeply thankful for this meaningful, hand-drawn reminder of purpose, education, and human rights.

Education is a human right. In my latest @HEPI_news article, I explore how global higher ed can step in:
