A group of Swiss women just won a landmark climate case in the European Court of Human Rights.
Learn more about the argument that convinced the court ⤵️

Today, there were two major advances for climate justice that reflect the power of grassroots, community-led advocacy:
The European Court for Human Rights ruled in favor of 2,400 senior women who joined together to sue the Swiss government for endangering the lives of older women and other vulnerable communities by failing to take urgent action on the climate crisis. This victory will help advance stronger climate policies across Europe and around the world.
Here in the U.S., the EPA unveiled essential protections against the hazardous pollutants from petrochemical production that have poisoned people in areas like Louisiana's Cancer Alley. This is vital action that environmental justice leaders like @DrBobBullard @SharonLavigne5 and so many others have advocated fiercely for.
These are powerful reminders that the antidote to despair about the state of climate and environmental justice is action!

Unanimously, the court holds that it's not necessary to examine the applicability of Art. 2 ECHR. 16-1: there's a violation of Article 8 ECHR!!!!!!!

Our argument for the creation of planetary commons!
Keeping the planet liveable might require creating governance systems for 'planetary commons' - such as the Amazon rainforest - like we have now for the high seas, the Antarctic and the like. But is it possible? @jrockstrom @KotzeProfessor @PIK_Climate context.news/climate-risks/o…
