I'm extremely bullish on WordPress winning in AI, perhaps more than I have been in a long time.
I think it is only a matter of time before people start seeing the light again & many already are.
It just isn't a good idea to vibe code something from scratch every time (with some exceptions, of course). I'm a builder, and with talented folks, we work on codebases across Astro, Next.js, Laravel, Vue.js, and countless others all day/all week.
It's literally what we do, but I can also be objective (unlike many who just want to serve their own interests) to say this:
Wherever you can, cut complexity out of the equation.
Each stack has its place, but most marketing sites, blogs, news sites, etc., should really just be WordPress.
Over-engineering makes sense in some cases, but in most cases, it's just over-engineering for its own sake. It's hard enough as it is to move work forward, no less when you are keeping up with AI, so cutting out complexity where you can instead of blindly running towards every new thing.
All this to say, check out my new personal website: alexjpanagis.com
Now get back to work (and try doing some of it outside of your prompt box sometime) :)

Another epic Contributor Day following WordCamp Sofia this weekend.
A few dozen experts from all around the world contributing to open source - code patches, theme updates, polyglot translations, support triaging, and more this Sunday.
I revisited 4 plugins published years ago and submitted 10 small updates toward the WordPress Core, pending reviews.
Met with community contributors from Greece through Romania and Slovenia to the Netherlands, after gathering over 300 people for the event on Saturday.
Major props to the organizing team, the contributing group today, all volunteers and speakers yesterday. Once again excellent work in pushing a step forward for 41% of the web 💻

A new PHP vulnerability is in the news. We tested it on our live servers: it can’t be used to take over sites hosted with us, WordPress included.
PHP has released a fix, and we’re applying it across all hosting today anyway. No action needed on your side.

At @automattic we invest deeply in security, so your @WordPress doesn't have rough days, our shield was up just like Cloudflare, and even better everything was patched on @WordPressdotcom @Pressable and @WordPressVIP , who didn't have a second of downtime.

The PHP project has released fixes for 2 critical vulnerabilities affecting servers that host PHP applications. Site owners and technical teams should confirm their hosting provider’s update plan and update PHP immediately. Versions before PHP 8.2 no longer receive security updates. These issues are not specific to WordPress, and no WordPress update is required. wp.me/pZhYe-5Gb

Word on the street is... ensure your PHP sites are running at least PHP 8.2 or above. Anything below that... huge security issue being exposed tomorrow. And 8.2 is the minimum version still receiving security updates. Sites below that better get with the program.

🚨 If you use PHP, prepare to update on October 21, 2026.
A critical security release is scheduled for 14:00 UTC (5 PM EAT), addressing two vulnerabilities rated CVSS 9.2 each.
Affected versions and fixes will be confirmed at release. Be ready to update as soon as patches are available.

Jokes aside honest truth is this job has no specific hours requirement but is intense. I work 80 hours/week and this person needs to keep up. Doing, learning & more.... and very fun
i have no horse in the race here - but to everyone trashing the 8am-8pm requirement, availability weekends and nights, and 3 year commitment...
this is the tacit/unsaid requirement of every job I have ever had that had real growth, learning, and ownership baked into it. the only difference is VK is being explicit about it in the JD

I'm not sure what vibe coded means any more? Like isn't everyone using AI to code in 2026?

Saying software is dead because anyone can build it is like saying photography is dead now that everyone in the world has a camera in their pocket
Not only is it not dead it's the beginning of the Kodak Brownie moment for software, and we will see an absolute explosion of it
It will be the first generation for who building software will feel no different than using it. This is crazy!
The quality and bar of what we expect from our everyday apps will be raised dramatically, we'll have personal software, we'll have disposable software, and agents will be the foundation for most of it
Tech has always been chaotic and evolving, the people who have been able to adapt and move in front of new opportunities have always excelled, this is nothing new, I'm seeing it now and we'll see it 10 years from now
Find the opportunities in the chaose and disruption, there are countless of them

Huge congratulations to the WPVibe team on reaching 70K+ users!
I’ve been using WPVibe since the beginning, so it’s great to see how far it’s come. Connecting AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Cursor to WordPress through MCP opens up new possibilities for how we build and manage websites.

The WordPress MCP Adapter is now released: wordpress.org/plugins/mcp-ad… 🎉
This is the canonical MCP plugin for WordPress, carefully architected for backwards-compatibility with MCP versions. If you want MCP in your site or plugins, I highly recommend using this.

FooGallery has 100,000+ active installs, and it pays most of our bills.
If we kept doing things the old way, I don't think FooPlugins would be around in 1 year.
Anyone can vibe code a gallery in an afternoon now, and every page builder ships one.
Why would anyone install my plugin when they can prompt their own?
I ask myself that a lot.
This is what we're doing about it :
> build the things a prompt can't : the fastest performing gallery plugin; cloud-backed services.
> bundles for agencies who build lots of client sites
> keep support fast, because a vibe coded gallery has nobody to email
> build for agents too, like FooPixel
Is it enough?
No idea yet.
What are other plugin makers doing?
